Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

This is the headline:
Drunk Idaho Trump Supporter Arrested After Pulling Gun On Kids In Haunted House During Argument

That’s exactly what happened and, yes, he was a complete idiot. Drunk morons shouldn’t be pulling guns on people for arguing.

I’m guessing he will be a celebrity at the next Trump rally, along with the McCloskeys and Rittenhouse.

I won’t make a mistake with looters and rioters tearing up my flower patch up front. A Springfield M1A SOCOM with lots of spare clips makes me sleep easy.

And no, stupid, useless people who don’t know just how serious trespassing could be shouldn’t feel safe.

Said every gun owner who ever made a mistake.

Everyone for that matter.

So, you are saying that you would shoot someone for turning around in your driveway?

You are a responsible gun owner’s worst nightmare, as it is people like you that make them look bad, and make people think that maybe we should have tighter restrictions on who we allow to possess lethal weaponry.

I don’t think he said that at all. I’m not sure why he brought up looters and rioters when the news item at hand was a about a drunk guy in a haunted house, but he specifically referred to property damage.

Now, whether trespassing on its face justifies lethal force is a different question, and probably varies by jurisdiction. Although tearing up my flower patch is certainly illegal, it is not quite home invasion and does not per se pose a threat to my safety. A couple of drunk teenagers who live down the street who wander into my yard do not deserve to die. I’m not sure how you tell the difference between them and “looters and rioters.”

Our friend was replying to this post

I’d say @k9bfriender’s assessment was accurate.

I don’t know why he brought up looters and rioters when the story he was replying to was about a person who was shot for accidently pulling into the wrong driveway.

He did seem to be in agreement with the act though. All tough guy about “trespassing”.

Sorry, I got my threads-within-the-thread crossed.

In fairness, @bumble_ardee was replying to a post from 2013.

< Quirrel> Troll! In the dungeons! Thought you ought to know.

Three-year old accidentally exercises 2nd Amendment rights at party.

Stupid but also incredibly tragic.

No doubt the gun owner was “responsible” and “would never make that mistake.”

They are so paranoid now that they have to bring their gun to a children’s birthday party?

Well, okay, I suppose maybe they were afraid there would be a clown.

“Accidentally”? Yeah, I think that is not the right word to use there.

intentionally?

No, but is it an “accident” if a preventable tragedy it is caused by gross negligence?

For the kid, it was an accident.

For the adult that brought a gun to a children’s birthday party, and then failed to keep it secured upon his person, I would consider to be criminal negligence.

My contention is that “accident” is really only applicable is one knows how to not have an unfortunate incident. The child did not know how to handle a gun, and the owner failed to maintain it in a safe condition (e.g., not unloaded, or not unable to discharge unintentionally). Negligence/carelessness should not be described in terms of an “accident” when are is clearly inviting bad things to happen by being stupid (see thread title).

The phrase accidentally exercised his 2nd amendment rights is obviously sardonic.
