Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

"Jim Chris: You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West Hampshire. You know… morons.

A Good Guy with a Gun story

(the second shooting victim’s condition was uncertain)

A preacher man is supposed to be the archetypal good guy – this one was apparently not good enough. At least his god has him now.

Arizona hardware employee shot by bystander who tried to stop shoplifter.

Fuckin’ell. As if shop lifting is punishable by death. Fuck that “good” guy with a gun. He should be charged with attempted murder. And should be liable for the hospital bills of the employee plus emotional distress.

IANAL and I am mostly drunk. Don’t expect me to back up my emotional response with cites.

Mostly? How can you tell when you have become fully drunk? Do you use the hemostat test?

“It’s unpleasantly like being drunk."
“What’s so unpleasant about being drunk?”
"You ask a glass of water.”

― Douglas Adams, [The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy]

Three gun deaths over snow shoveling.

Seems a reasonable defense of property.

/s

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, I guess.

Why were they carrying snow across a street instead of putting it on their own property? Sounds like there was a lot more going on there.

Too damned many guns out there, too damned many people willing to use a gun instead of talking.

Hard to tell for sure from the story.

This story

Has a picture of the scene. Looks like there is only parking on one side. So they were probably parked on “his” side of the street, and shoveling out their cars.

Violence after a snowfall usually involves someone stealing a shoveled out parking place, or moving someone’s lawn chairs. Ahhhh, Pennsylvania.

I can understand the rage involved there, having shovelled my share of parking spots. But even then I’d likely settle for loud profanity.

An Oklahoma man having marital problems with his wife was on the phone with her when he fatally shot their two daughters — and said, “How do you like that?” before turning the gun on himself. Oklahoma man kills daughters, self while on phone with wife: cops

I’m sure @DrDeth would chastise you for infringing on this man’s right to take his own life, based on his posts in the recently closed gun control thread

Gun nut snowflakes :snowflake: whine about their safe space being invaded:

Watch out, they’re armed and dangerous!

The horrible insult they’re upset about? Pointing out that a 12 year old having access to a gun isn’t really “positive” gun news.

While I fully understand the strong urge to point out that many of the incidents listed in that thread that have been “foiled” by gun owners might not have happened at all if guns weren’t so readily available, I’m also personally inclined to agree that some of the posts in that thread do occasionally stray into “threadshitting” . This thread is in the Pit, that one ain’t, and - however tempting - the snark isn’t worth earning a warning (and Og knows I’ve deleted my share of forum-inappropriate comments in that thread just before submitting).

(NB: IANA Mod. The above is purely a personal opinion.)

Eh, it’s be far easier if they just renamed the thread to “Defensive gun use of the day”, rather than try to defend every time someone wonders how a traumatic story is declared as positive new.

But, they were given the benefit of the doubt because they cried so hard. Any question of whether or how people dead and injured and traumatized amounts to positive news is considered threadshitting to them.

Not really worth re-litigating, I’ve come to accept the pro-gun violence stance that this board has taken, it’s better to just give them shit from time to time over here than to go through all that again. I actually quit the board for about 6 months and almost didn’t come back over it, but, now I just ignore it as much as possible.

But yeah, if you want to question a “positive” gun news story, just do it over here and link to it.

Of course, if the current move stands, which I doubt it will, then the gun nuts would actually no longer be insulated from criticism and question in that thread.

So, and since it’s the pit, we can say that @aceplace57 considers it a positive story when a 73 year old grandmother was shot in an attempted home invasion.

It’s also a positive story that a 12 year old has to deal with the fact that he killed someone. Something he will have to carry with him the rest of his life.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I suppose I would agree, in spite of my own preference for debate and prove-me-wrong to be on debate threads – though maybe there will always be the question whether this is the place for news about “stupid” gun-related things or for calling out WRONG gun-related things. AIUI that other thread was created partly as a response to this one that preexisted it.

Positive that someone successfully repelled a home invasion. Negative that the home invaders were armed in the first place.
