As has been pointed out in multiple previous gun threads, the car insurance analogy isn’t perfect because no state requires you to have insurance simply to own a car. The insurance is a requirement of getting a license to drive your car on public roads. A better analogy would be requiring insurance to get a carry permit, which wouldn’t be much worse then the current costs associated with permits.
