Better than nothing but I think it would save more lives if mandatory. If it saves just one life then it’s worth it.
Great, since there are almost as many guns in this country as their are people, and soon will be more guns than people, surely it is relevant that everyone learn gun safety.
Freedom-loving American patriots abhor anything mandatory.
Really?
Here, let me Youtube that for you.
Mandatory gun safety training for kids should amount to, “If you see an unsecured gun, start screaming for an adult. Do not touch it.” That’s it. No reason to learn the 4 rules until you take them shooting, which should always be supervised. Just-in-time training is more effective anyway, and for most kids, “Don’t touch guns” is all they’ll ever need.
At some age, maybe 10, you should probably start teaching them how to use it.
Yes, that’s a job for parents who buy their kids guns. Or in my case, the Boy Scout camp where I first shot a .22.
Mandatory school-based training for vast numbers of suburban kids who don’t own guns is pointless for any training beyond “don’t touch an unattended gun.”
Suburban kids aren’t at risk for accidents?
I knew it.

Gun control is effeminate.
“Don’t touch an unattended gun, find an adult” isn’t a good enough rule for you?
Maybe till age 10, but maybe not even.
So now you want to execute all the Moms, huh?
Some parents are about as rational about gun education as other parents are about sex education. In fact they make some of the same abstinence only type arguments
Yeah, turns out that doesnt work so well. Kids are curious and nor very good at doing as they are told. You might as well tell teenagers not to have sex until they are married.
So, teaching them gun safety is wasted time also, right? Kids are gonna shoot what kids are gonna shoot.
Somebody’s gonna have to convince me on the wisdom of allowing 10 year olds to have guns in the first place.
Drinking age? Check.
Driving age? Check.
Voting age? Check.
Gun ownership age? Not necessary!
Are you pretending to be that stupid?
Guns tend to have immediately fatal consequences…sex, not so much.
I wasn’t commenting on ownership, I was commenting on when to start teaching them safe gun handling. I started learning it when I was 9 and got my fist BB gun, and the rule that if I pointed it at anyone it would be taken away. I took my game and fish gun safety course when I was 14 and got my first rifle. If this education were made available to everyone it would save lives. But of course the goal of anti-gunners isn’t to save lives but rather ban guns cause they are scary.
I have to lower myself to your level when a YouTube video just isn’t enough.
