People think it’s reasonable to answer the door with a gun in their hand.
Woman shot dead after turning in to wrong driveway:
Jesus.
Expect Amazon delivery costs to go up soon, when the drivers start demanding hazard pay.
Also UPS and FED-EX (USPS will have to hope for approval for a rate increase, which seems unlikely, given that we just had one).
If she hadn’t been hit and killed, this would have made it into the defense gun use database.
And over in Georgia, we have this from a celebration:
Shooting at Gwinnett baby shower leaves father of 6 dead
A Gwinnett County family is in disbelief after a deadly shooting at a baby shower claimed the life of a father of six.
Angel Mendoza, 39, died Sunday morning at a house on Pepperwood Trail in Norcross, according to Gwinnett County Police.
Witnesses told police that Mendoza, acting out of safety concerns, took a gun away from a guest he did not know who had just accidentally shot himself in the foot.
More at the link, but basically the idjit who shot his own foot got upset someone took away his lethal toy, so he went and got another lethal toy and came back to commit murder. The dead man and his wife were guests at the baby shower.
I mean, you have to expect that anyone who brings a gun to a baby shower to be fucked in the head.
Don’t take the gun from them, call the police, have them arrested. Maybe they will have a shootout with the police, but that’s not your problem.
The mistake here was treating someone who brings a gun to a baby shower as a rational individual, rather than the psychotic criminal they are.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this thread is that there’s nothing more dangerous than a toddler and, by extension, fetuses even more so.
How can you tell (other than the ultrasound) if that fetus has a gat and doesn’t know not to use it?
I didn’t say that you shouldn’t bring your armed toddler, that’s a given.
It’s adults that can’t be trusted with guns.
Yeah. The host decided that the dumbass who shot himself in the foot literally is still okay to hang out at the party. That tells you a lot right there. The main thing it tells you is that if you’re a guest at that party, it’s time to GTFO!
Let’s all remember folks, an armed society is a polite society.
Yes, but when the last of that society has been shot dead, who’ll be left to buy the funeral flowers? Won’t anyone think of the poor and suffering FTD Florist?
They got taken out by a little old lady with an Uzi in Round 3.
Politely.
I kind of identify with Kaylin Gillis, the woman in a car who turned around in an upstate New York State driveway and got shot, as I’ve turned around in driveways more than once.
Really, what is this whole thing with being so jacked up on paranoid dread that anyone approaching unnanounced is presumed a mortal threat worth firing upon? Way to fuckin’ go, media/socialnets panicmongerers.
I mean it’s either that or more people than we thought are cooking meth or running a trafficking ring in their basements and expect a rival’s hit at any time…
I had the same exact thought. A few* years ago my wife and I got lost on the way to a party in a rural area. We were going down a narrow dirt road (with no cell reception of course) and finally decided to turn around, but the only way to do so was to drive up a dirt driveway in front of a farmhouse. Worse, it was getting dark and my wife was driving at the time, but didn’t want to drive back in the dark - so we got out of the car and switched.
*Holy crap, it’s closer to a decade than a few years, now.
That’s exactly what happens when you take a conclusion and then look for evidence to support it, instead of looking at the evidence and finding out what conclusions it leads to.
If you’ve decided that guns are necessary for self defense in 2023 America, then you have to jump through a whole bunch of illogical hoops to justify that.
People read blogs like the positive gun news of the day thread and see all these threats to them. It makes then paranoid, thinking that anyone that comes to their house is a threat, it makes them think that answering the door with a gun in their hand is prudent, that shooting people in their car in your driveway is justified, it makes them think that bringing a gun to a baby shower is reasonable, and that having that gun taken after having demonstrated irresponsibility is a capital crime worth murder.
The gun culture feeds on itself, turning what could have been self actualized people with agency into cowards who depend on violence whenever they are scared, which is often. It’s little different from any other form of radicalization.
To be fair, the PGNOD thread when it was alive mostly addressed actual confrontations. But a lot of the RW media and nets (and elected officials) seem bent on portraying that there has already been a collapse of the expectation of peaceful coexistence and that all around you “the cities are burning” and roving gangs of punks, thugs, zombies, or zombie punk thugs are running wild — add irresponsible “2A community” influencers blathering about how not being armed is a choice to be “prey”, season with a culture of “not being disrespected”… and, well…
you get people shooting each other at Chuck E Cheese
