Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 2)

You know what the worst part is?

You called it an assault rifle!

If you can’t tell the difference, then you can’t have an opinion on whether 12 year olds should be shooting Sonic employees.

To be precise, the story says he was shot with an “AR-15 style .22 rifle.”

Oh, well, that’s all right then. Just another well-regulated militia member exercising his constitutional right to put down tyranny.

Thank you for that. CookingWithGas’s Law of Satire says that no matter how ridiculous or outrageous you try to make a satirical statement, there will be someone who would make that statement in all seriousness.

Oh, now you are just plagiarizing Poe.

Channeling, not plagiarizing. We must always remember to use the correct “woke” terminology. (To be clear, I’m not mocking woke; I’m mocking the rightists’ own use of the word.)

Note that this is likely a journalist rounding down or misunderstanding an actual AR-15 or AR-15 style calibre of .223, a lot nastier round than the usual impression of a .22 round as just something used in plinking at tin cans, and essentially the civilian version of the 5.56mm round used by the military versions of the gun.

I’m reserving judgement on that. The victim was hit 6 times, and lived to make it to the hospital. That sounds more like .22 than .223. Plus, 6 shots hitting from an AR-15 in the hands of a 12 year old? Unlikely. From a .22? Easily.

Of course, time of death may be when somebody certified him dead. So he could easily have died on the way.

And there are a whole bunch of “AR15-style” rifles in .22LR of course. 'cause Og forbid you be seen with something that looks like it’s for backyard plinking or picking off squirrels when you can look tacticool. And the young’uns need to grow up used to swinging around America’s Gun .

Do they say six hits anywhere, or just six shots? I only see that the 12-y/o fired six shots and some of them hit the guy.

I am also a little on the edge on this one. There are pictures of the victim that show a somewhat-inked face, including at least two teardrops (below the outer corner of the right eye). That could be meaningful.

What’s the proper response after a school shooting? Tennessee has the answer for you!

After school shooting, Tennessee governor signs bill to shield gun firms further against lawsuits

I am so glad I no longer live in that state.

I had been unaware of that! I will now give credit where it’s due.

Maybe. But let’s leave all descriptions of the weapon aside. A 12-year-old use a firearm to kill a man.

I had assumed it was something like this, the S&W M&P 15-22, which looks just like any other black tactical AR platform, just chambered in .22LR. This isn’t the only such option by any means, but gives you a visual representation that would very easily match the description in the news.

There are also adapters to allow an AR to shoot .22 cal. Mostly to save money on ammo when practicing.

Is the toddler a bad guy with a gun, or a good guy with a gun? It’s so confusing…

6 of one half dozen of the other?

Good guy with a bad gun!

Wasn’t there a gun wielding toddler from Indiana in this thread earlier? I wonder if it’s the same one.
This story features a grenade instead of a gun. Indiana, Y’all!

(If you found something that you thought could be a grenade, pulling the pin seems like a mistake. But that’s me.)

Well, how would you check if it’s a grenade?
