Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 2)

The live in fear. They are also terrified that if their kids learn about homosexuality, they will be gay, if they learn about transgender, they will be trans, if they learn about the history of slavery and civil rights, they will hate their parents.

It’s all about hate and fear, and violence is the only answer they can think of.

Chief Keystone Kop believes “she was in the wrong place at the wrong time” and that she was not the target.

With that kind of brain power, this will be solved in no time.

Well, they probably have a point here.

People are so ungrateful: guy considering suicide, sheriff’s deputies try to help him achieve his goal by firing 50 shots at him–and now the guy is filing a lawsuit?

With 50 bullets, and only an 18% hit rate, they did a damn poor job of helping Mr. Mullinax die.

Also, his fucking mother was on the scene - how did she not get hit by one of the stray 41 bullets?

I was wondering about that also since the early part of the article led me to think she was in the trunk with him. Later, it said she talking to him through a window and took cover when they opened fire. The first couple of shots were probably relatively on target, so she’d have had time to drop to the ground.

“Barney Fife’s Law”…?

( just lidding; there is no such law )

So, he was being an irresponsible gun owner from the beginning. Even if his actions hadn’t killed someone, he should still be arrested, have his guns taken away, and spend a spot of time in jail. Same if he had hit any of the supposed “burglars”.

Were it not for the “accidental” homicide involved, this would probably qualify for one of the self reported “Defensive Gun Uses” that gun advocates like to pretend is data that supports their position.

At a guess, there weren’t any actual burglars, either.

Full disclosure, I’m a gun owner and have participated in many threads about pros/cons, attitudes for and against. So I’m biased, and one of the few that think responsible gun ownership is possible, but with rights comes responsibilities.

I still read this thread though, because 99+% of what gets reported here is indefensible, just so you know I am not in any way judging you. But I figured I had a chance to share a slightly lighter-hearted Stupid Gun News of the Day before the next mass shooting makes us all crazy again.

https://www.ksn.com/news/state-regional/dont-fish-with-a-gun-in-kansas-game-wardens-say/

Someone allegedly decided to use a 9 mm gun to catch fish in Garden City on Tuesday, but they got caught by game wardens.

There’s a slightly more detailed version on CNN but after their Trump Rally (that they call a Town Hall) I’m trying to avoid giving them links.

I don’t think you are one of the few, I think most of us think that. Problem is that you don’t have to be responsible to own a gun.

Most (but not all) of the stories in this thread are of legal gun owners who were not responsible, and enough of these stories do tend to make a few wonder if responsible gun ownership is in fact possible.

That’s certainly irresponsible, but much less so than many stories here. And fortunately, no one (other than maybe some fish) got hurt.

“…Shoot the streams…”
“Whoa whoa whoa Egon… you said shooting the streams was bad…”

I’m not anti-gun, per se. I believe the 2nd Amendment has been far too broadly interpreted and we should be able to regulate gun ownership to a greater extent than we do, but realistically, that ship has sailed.

However, now that everyone who wants one can own and, depending on the state, carry any type of firearm they want with little or no training, can we as a society please require them to show some responsibility to go along with the unfettered right? Sure, you can own your Deluxe Mass Child Killer, but if you leave it out unsecured, you should be held criminally responsible when one of your children kills someone with it. If you spray bullets indiscriminately in the general direction of someone you think is a threat, you should be held criminally liable for the six-year-old you shoot “accidentally.” If you don’t secure your firearms in a reasonable manner, you should bear some liability for the crimes that are committed with it when it’s stolen.

I just want to see some responsibility attached to all that glorious exercise of rights.

Out there in the internet, right now in a comments section there is a lively debate on the proper caliber for freshwater fishing, I just know there is…

This is the only proper boomstick for fish.

Ahem… Crossing the streams.

Nice way to make you’re lawyer’s job easier!
'So, we’ll be looking for a plea bargain ‘cause those two pieces of evidence take pretty much every defense except insanity off the table.’

The slain woman’s aunt sums it up:

Ms Higinbotham said that while she supports gun rights, she believes it is important owners are responsible.

“Everybody that I know is very self-conscious and very careful with their weapons,” she said. “I live in Pennsylvania, which is a far cry from Texas. Like it just seems that down there they’re a little less caring as to where they’re pointing or where they’re not even aiming and then just pulling the trigger.”

Woah, woah, woah! That is a very slippery slope you are trying to go down there. The next step after demanding responsible gun ownership is a complete and total ban of all firearms! How dare you!
