Not advocating for the back-shooting Chow, but is that Po-leece doctrine, see a gun and shoot someone? I think it might be. 'Cuz if I were a Po-leece, I wouldn’t wait for The Point.
Po-leece was the accepted pronunciation in Baltimore, in the '60s.
Maybe this should go into the PGNotD thread. Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee is trying to get a gun control law into the works, to get guns away from people who might harm themselves or others. This the guy who recently championed open-ended permitless carry. Naturally he is facing massive pushback from anyone that matters in the state.
I mean, it (a red flag law) is pretty weak, but it is not nothing.
Okay, this should win stupid gun news of the week, at least: Idjit not only shot himself but also got arrested for firearms felonies.
An Illinois man thought his home was being burglarized, grabbed his handgun and opened fire. But the Lake County Sheriff’s Office says it all was a dream and the 62-year-old woke up to find while his home was fine, he’d shot himself in the leg.
Now, Mark Dicara is facing felony charges over the April incident.
Dicara was arrested Monday on charges of possession of a firearm without a valid Firearm Owners Identification card and reckless discharge of a firearm, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Heh. Editing to add this bit from the story:
The bullet tore through Dicara’s leg and hit his bed, authorities said.
“Fortunately, the round did not travel through a shared wall with Dicara’s neighbors,” the release read.
This one is about a week and a half old but it really hurts my head. A funeral director became angry during a burial service, spit on the minister over a nebulous business dispute, and ended up shooting a man to death who had stepped in to try to calm the situation while grazing a woman.
The mourners were gathered to bury a 10-year-old girl who encountered a hail of bullets while riding in a car on Mother’s Day. The man who was killed was a close family friend, while the woman who was grazed and the spat-upon minister were relatives.
The shooter jumped into his car and fled the scene but was later apprehended and charged with murder.
I don’t know what “felonious assault” is but how is firing a shotgun at someone not attempted murder?
Also, BTW, on another note:
“We’re deeply concerned by the incident involving our delivery partner and are grateful he’s home and recovering. We’ll continue cooperating with authorities as they investigate,” said Alisa Carroll, a spokesperson for Amazon.
It sounds like he may have been a contractor, rather than an employee, and Amazon is not going to do shit for him except be grateful.
ISTM that, at the very least, when someone at a particular address fires a weapon at a delivery person for a private company, that individual and residence should immediately go on a “red flag” list for that company. Certainly the local delivery workers should have access to that information.
You shoot at a delivery worker, okay, no more deliveries for you. Or for anyone else at your address until you move out.
IANAL, but I think any type of murder charge presumes what’s called “specific intent to kill”. Plenty of (stupid and criminal) people deliberately shoot at other people to frighten and/or injure them, without intending to actually bring about their victim’s death.
My guess would be that the prosecutor in this case didn’t want to risk not being able to make the murderous-intent part of the charge stick, so they went with the lesser (but also quite serious, AFAICT) charge of felonious assault.
