Upstate NY man actually convicted of improperly firing a shotgun, resulting in a young woman’s death. The young folk had gotten lost and turned up the wrong driveway, which made the homeowner feel afraid, so he came out and shot at them as they were leaving.
But, he says it was not his fault. He dropped the gun and it went off. Or he tripped on a nail and it fired. Or something. It was a accident.
(“Accidents” are covered under “manslaughter”.)
I’d pay for his legal defense if he could drop that gun and get it to “go off” again straight at the same place where he fired deliberately the first time.
What the fuck does Texas consider “reckless”?
Nothing.
Missing.
Nothing
Indeed, it appears that way. I’d say if you have no clue where your gun is, to the point that you accidentally try to carry it on a plane, you aren’t fit to be within 10 feet of a gun.
I mean, for all you apparently know, it could be in your kid’s bagpack on the way to school.
This article was posted prior to the superbowl, but KCTV5 just said the shotspotter network detected another recored high after the chiefs win.
According to data from ShotSpotter, the number of gunfire rounds detected after playoff wins rose from 2023 to 2024.

This Florida (police) man seems like he really should get a little more training.
If by “training” you mean “immediate psychiatric evaluation and prosecution”, then yes.

That must have been one hell of a fast moving acorn.
The woman PO seemed to be doing a good job, telling the familly to get inside, and taking cover herself. The man, well, he completely panicked.
My brother used to do a gun sport called “practical pistol”. It is kind of an obstacle course/maze where targets suddenly appear and you get points for hitting them. Occasionally there are targets that have hostages in front of them. Adrenalin runs high.
Why do the police not train like that? It is one thing to train accuracy on the range from time to time, but totally another to do “real” world simulation.
Also: that cop put a full mag into his own car. I don’t know guns. I counted 16 or 17 shots, so I’m guessing 9mm Glock.
And to make matters “worse”*, he didn’t even hit the guy! 16(?) shots and every single one missed. If that dumass cop was actually facing a guy with a gun, he’d be dead.
*objectively, better for Mr Jackson

That’s expensive for the department (in time and money, and a lot of the local police departments in the USA have to borrow/rent range time from some larger better funded agency). For a lot of the officers who are not in SWAT/hostage rescue units, the “training on the range” once they leave the “academy” is barely a once or twice a year quals test — show you will not hurt yourself and that you can hit X% out of a fixed number of shots at static targets at fixed distances from a firing line…

…resulting in this. Again, lucky for him, but panicked spray-and-pray only increases the chances innocent bystanders get hurt.
Is this correct: Trigger happy cop number one thinks he is shot and unloads on his own patrol car with a suspect in the back seat. Trigger happy cop number two joins in on the destruction of the patrol car. After all those shots, the suspect came out unscathed physically (I’m sure not mentally) and Trigger Happy Cop 1 figures out he wasn’t actually shot or that there was a shot?
What THE FUCK?!!! How do you think you are shot when you are not?
There may be undiagnosed PTSD for the officer involved. He did two tours overseas. No details on where. Based on the camera/audio, he was pretty shook up during and after the incident (not discounting the guy in the patrol car that was pretty shook up too). He, the officer, did resign from the force.
I suppose if you’ve never been shot you can’t really know what it’s like (and conversely there are numerous cases of people not noticing they were )
He, the officer, did resign from the force.
Well, good to hear that. And let’s hope he changes careers, he’s not good for that work and that work’s not good for him.
the shotspotter network detected another record high after the chiefs win.
And another one after the victory parade. I’m just guessing.
