Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 2)

What if they gave a nuclear war and nobody came?

I read, I believe in Command And Control, that the mechanical safeties on some of our weapons in the 60s? 70s? were “too safe” and that the bombs might not have gone off, were they dropped in anger. That would have been embarrassing.

eta: imagine in Dr Strangelove, if after all the hunting for Kong’s bomber, and him riding the bomb down, if it just thudded into the ground, a dud.

I guess Lee Greenwoods song wouldn’t play over the intercom…? /s

It’s stupid, and there is a gun, so here we are.

Los Angeles police raided a medical imaging center, suspecting it of being a marijuana growing operation, due to high electrical consumption (by MRI machines).

At one point, an officer walked into an MRI room, past a sign warning that metal was prohibited inside, with his rifle “dangling… in his right hand, with an unsecured strap,” the lawsuit said. The MRI machine’s magnetic force then allegedly sucked his rifle across the room, pinning it against the machine.

An officer then allegedly pulled a sealed emergency release button that shut the MRI machine down, deactivating it, evaporating thousands of liters of helium gas and damaging the machine in the process. The officer then grabbed his rifle and left the room, leaving behind a magazine filled with bullets on the office floor, according to the lawsuit.

Two Des Moines, Iowa cops kill a suspect who has a pellet gun. But one cop also shoots the other cop in the back.

Things are gonna be awkward in that station house for a while…

Did all that released helium give them high-pitched voices, before asphyxiating them in the process?

Didn’t know if this was a stupid MF thread post or an evil MF thread post, so I went with stupid gun news, mostly for the bit at the end.

Three shot, one stabbed at Phoenix Sky harbor airport. It was an apparent “family dispute”. Thank goodness we are an open carry state!

My fav part:

In an unrelated incident, a man was arrested after he allegedly arrived at the airport with firearms after receiving a text falsely saying there was an active shooter.

Becasue the only thing that stop a bad man with a gun is an over-eager stupid man with a gun and delusions of grandeur.

I wonder what they charged him with. Arizona doesn’t require a permit for OC or CC (with some exceptions). Is it illegal to carry firearms into an airport? Also the photo of him being escorted by police shows a guy with shorts on and nothing else. I feel like they buried the lede here.

Airports are one of the exceptions.

Though the list says:

Airports (in or beyond security checkpoints)

So, just don’t try to go further than the check-in area?

IIRC in most states if you stay on the open-to-public side of the airport i.e. up to check-in or out past luggage claim, the general restrictions for public facilities apply.

An airport’s first security checkpoint is at its gate.

The guy who was arrested presumably did not have a ticket for a flight so he would not have been trying to go through security. Given his state of undress there may have various disorderly charges.

One article says

The man, later identified as 21-year-old Cole Nenon, handed his firearms to other individuals at the airport before he approached an officer who was posted just outside the shooting scene. Nenon appeared irate and began yelling at the officer as he approached him. The officer gave Nenon commands to stop but he did not. The officer was able to take the man to the ground and placed him under arrest," police said in a release.

Police say Nenon struck and spat on an officer and he was booked on aggravated assault charges.

According to the report, three firearms were recovered and taken as evidence.

It is possible that his possession of firearms was legal per se, but his other behavior is what got him arrested.

Walter Mitty is packing heat!

Two students, including the shooter, are dead and another student is injured after shots rang out in the cafeteria of Antioch High School in Nashville at 11:09 a.m. Wednesday.

Dang, they’re starting young! (The link goes to AOL.)

The kid first answered the door armed with a knife. Then when told to get an adult, he returned with a firearm. Now that’s how you show who’s the adult in the situation!

A 5-year-old child had to be disarmed by police after answering the front door holding a loaded handgun in Michigan.

The child opened the front door carrying the armed weapon to a cadet who came to serve a subpoena at the property on Inn Road on Saturday, Jan. 25, the Battle Creek Police Department stated in a news release.

“The cadet called for a road patrol officer after the child initially answered the door with a large kitchen knife,” police said, per the release. “When the cadet asked the child to have an adult come to the door, the child returned with the loaded handgun, which the cadet removed.”

:notes:They have to be carefully taught. :notes:

Man says “Check it out: I have an amazing ability to dodge bullets!” Friend checks it out. Man loses ability to dodge bullets, or anything else, for that matter.

Yet another example of the dangers of . . . marijuana use!

Well, you never see sober people do that.

“Hold my beer and watch this” isn’t just a cliche.

You sweet summer child…
