Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 2)

Oh, I dunno. Use a .44 and get the shot off right into an eye…

I’m sure all those open carry folks practice daily and have achieved superb marksmanship levels, right?

You never saw Orange Is the New Black?

Nope.

Two of the prisoners in that show are mother and daughter.

She’s probably one of those “homeschoolers” who won’t actually put in the work, but just wants to make sure that her kid doesn’t get an actual education. You can uneducate a kid just as well in prison as you can at home.

Sadly, there’s almost no oversight to prevent this sort of thing, and the only way anyone ever finds out about it is when things go horribly wrong, so we don’t even know how common this is.

Look at social media. Anyone talking seriously about chemtrails is most likely home schooled.

Hah! The only person I know in real life who bangs on about chemtrails on social media is a physics teacher with a PhD.

I agree. I know plenty of responsible gun owners who take proper care to secure and maintain their weapons and who do not constantly wave them about in a stupidly performative manner. Because they’re not insecure dickheads.

The noisy irresponsible ones? Yeah, they’re bad.

I have known truly responsible gun owners. The problem is that the irresponsible gun owners think they’re responsible, right up until their two-year-old shoots their four-year-old, the gun “goes off” in their purse, or they brandish when someone has over 10 items in the express lane.

They do have a remarkable talent in hitting the wrong person.
Draw, squeeze, assess.

A friend of mine is a physics PhD who was homeschooled, too. But his parents were among the responsible ones, who made sure he got a well-rounded education, and he isn’t into any sort of nuttery.

Homeschooling can work. Some homeschooling parents are responsible. We just don’t know which ones or how many, because of the lack of oversight.

This is the real truth: bad gun owners are the loud minority, or atleast loud large subsect. Most lock their guns and ammo in a safe and have proper trigger locks on any firearms that aren’t in a safe. There are reasons to carry a firearm in your car or even potentially on your person, but that in no way means you don’t have a responsibility to properly secure that weapon.

Whenever we fly and we see the signs at the airport reminding travelers that they can’t bring firearms with them through the security screening, we always discuss the people at whom the signs are aimed. I figure they fall into one (or both) of two buckets:

  1. Firearm owners who don’t realize that they are not allowed to carry on board the aircraft, or,
  2. Firearm owners who completely forget that they’re packing.

I’m not sure which ones I find more disturbing.

Both. Neither one should be allowed to own firearms.

Very minor comment that’s probably not needed for the Pit, but I want to make a tiny alteration to the above. If the situation arises, there should be a legal mechanism that’s actually enforced to remove their right to own weapons with due process of law. I know that there would be efforts to draw the line differently (One and done, three strikes you’re out, etc.) but this is a really terrifying public risk to just get off with such a simple excuse.

The reason for the alteration is that far to many of the idjits I mention look at comments like @running_coach (and I have nothing but respect for them) and scream the same BS I ranted about before “You’re taking my RIGHTS!” while ignoring how badly they’d flubbed their responsibilities. Due process makes the case for balancing both.

Enough of the respectable talk in the pit.

“I have had it with these motherfucking snakes guns on this motherfucking plane airport!”

This involves the threat of using a gun. On a 7 year old for ringing the doorbell.

Before deactivating his account entirely, Chambers deleted his post and later stated his case, alleging the girl was acting as a “decoy” for an attempted break-in at his home without sharing evidence to support the accusation.

Always, always the excuse of a paranoid panic that the everyone unfamiliar at the door is a potential attack to be repelled by deadly force.

You’ve just described every fifth post on Nextdoor.

That article says his Facebook post said, “You’re lucky we weren’t home to shoot your a— dumb b—.” What words are being obscured here? Ass? Bitch?

That’s my guess, nothing else fits.

ETA; And add that attitude as a disqualification to ever owning a firearm.
