Crap, I just threw away 13 bucks. 13 bucks isn’t worth the pit, but damnit I hate being stupid.
I was doing my federal taxes for free online you see, and the number they owe me was a bit larger than I was estimating. That made me happy. So happy I did something stupid that cost 13 bucks, for no reason, that makes me sad.
I did the “pay 12.95 to let them file my state taxes as well” thing. There was no reason to do that. My state, Colorado, has free online filing through the Government website. I have been doing that for years.
And I didn’t even save any key strokes, cause for the free federal option they won’t even import it over to the state side(which they make you pay for) for free. Although they keep telling you you can upgrade to the "pay 9.95 for your federal return "bit, which does include importing to the state side. So I had to type it all in anyway again, and then pay them 13 bucks to DO NOTHING cause I was doing all the work of typing in the forms anyway.
I’m not sure I quite understand. What exactly DID you get for your $12.95? Did you have to retype in all the information, or was some ported over from the federal form?
For a free federal return they will not port over the information. So you have to type it in yourself then pay 12.95 for them to submit it. Which I did.
If you pay 9.95 for the federal return they will port it over to the State return which you still have to pay 12.95 for them to submit for you.
I got really stupid and just went along the damn arrows, and ended up saying I wanted them to submit my State return for 12.95, when I can do it on the state site for free.
It’s not the Government who charges. It is the company providing the service, but it’s not a service worth it.
Um, what convenience of what service? They said that they can do XYZ inputting data themselves on the state site for free and submit it online, or they can do XYZ inputting data from the other thing, and submit it online, and pay $13 for the privilege. I see no added value by way of convenience or service here.
