Wasn’t it Bush who called Islam a “religion of peace”, not anyone Islamic? Up until recently it was always Christianity that I was hearing called a religion of peace. Googling I see quotes referring to Christianity that way as far back as the 1860s.
Underlining mine. It seems inaccurate to mock Islam for violating a position its followers didn’t attribute to themselves.
We have a name for these kind of incidents here: we call them “work accidents”. As in, “Two Hamas activists were killed in an explosion in a Gaza apartment this afternoon. Army sources say that their deaths were probably a result of a work accident.”
That’s also why competent bomb makers are a terrorist organization’s most valuable asset - far more than the poor saps they actually send to set them off - and as a result, are prime targets for security forces.
The third Iranian at large – presumably Curly-mar – did somehow manage to fly to Malaysia late last night. Not sure why the one guy was stopped and detained but the other one was not. But it looks like our friends in Malaysia have arrested him.
However this plays out, I suspect the one who’s in the hospital won’t have a leg to standon when he goes to court.
Of interest from the first link above: **"Observers, however, noted that the use of motorbike assassins to blow up targets’ cars closely mirrored the method used to murder nuclear scientists in Iran in the past two years, raising the possibility of Iranian payback and a vicious covert war between the Middle East foes.
“Thai police said explosives and magnets were found inside the house in a residential area of Bangkok where the first blast occurred, shattering windows and causing the roof of the building to collapse.”**
Go to Netflix or some such and get a copy of “Into the Night”. It prominently features a squad of Iranian hit men who are definitely not the best and brightest.
And I can almost guarantee your will get this movie. Why, you say?
Well, it features the only known nude scenes of Michelle Pfieffer.
It is my absolutely unfounded and belligerent opinion that intelligent people, unless also burdened with significant paranoia or other delusional mental illness, don’t engage in terrorism. Either they can understand the irritating situation is much larger than their own efforts, or because they can see that neither/both “sides” are wrong. Sorta the same profile of criminals in general–smart folks have less violent methods for dealing with what bugs 'em.
Menachem Begin ordered the bombing of the King David Hotel in 1946 which killed 91 people, and he went on to become Prime MInister of Israel. One man’s terrrorist is another man’s patriot.
So terrorist = patriot, but the crux of my incredibly narrow-minded post is that neither are particularly bright, unless also afflicted.
I know who Begin was, but I’m not old enough to remember how he was viewed by the world at large. Was he consided a warmongering nut of the same order as Netanyahu?
I like this excerpt: “He added that while Mr Hazaei denied any connection to Mr Moradi after being detained at the airport, his clothes had traces of explosives and he was found to have suffered shrapnel injuries.”
The Thai authorities though are trying to downplay any terrorism aspect out of fear of the effect on tourism. But security is being beefed up.
Good thing baseball (or American football) isn’t commonly played by Iranian children, so throwing skills aren’t a given. Now, if he had tried to *kick *the bomb, maybe he would have missed the tree…
Suspects partied in Pattaya before the bombing. I doubt you can find 72 virgins in Pattaya though. Nice photo; refutes any claims they don’t know one other.
Security’s really tightening up now too. Story here. Israel is warning us of intelligence about possible airport attacks now. Damn but those Iranians are sore losers.
