I’m not a big country music fan, but I have always been a sucker for cool story songs. I jumped on Napster and grabbed ‘Convoy’. It’s a pretty cool song that has potential to be a manly-man type of anthem, but what is with the chorus, is that supposed to be the muppets or something?
I thought the same thing when I heard “Symmetry (the way things have to be)” by Jane Siberry. Brilliant, brilliant song, right up until the last couple of lines when she sings “You can’t chop down a symmetry.” The song’s just too cool to end on a pun.
Any time a song “takes it to The Bridge.” The ‘bridge’ is never good.
The Doors’ ‘Riders on the Storm’ has this lyrical gem:
‘There’s a killer on the road
His brain is squirming like a toad.’
WTF?
Where’s that confounded bridge!
