Don’t wana fuck your mother? Don’t smoke pot!
Drug money funds terror? Weren’t the taleban against opium production? Did George Bush and compatriots really send them money for the war on drugs, or was that just an urban legend?
We don’t get these adverts this side of the atlantic. Actually, I saw an anti-drugs advert last night (from the UK Department of Work and Pensions, I believe), it was sandwiched between an advert for the NHS and one for the Coast Guard.
The anti-drug as told us drugs lead to being date raped, being imprisoned for date rape (I think, it was very hard to follow), falling from high buildings and walking unsteadily. Very surreal. It ended with a faked CD cover of a staggering girl and the words “Don’t Get Wasted”. All the scenes were out of sequence, it was very confusing.
The Coast Guard ad was worse. The message seemed to be “Don’t throw yourself off a cliff or we’ll have to waste our valuable time saving you”, but I could be wrong. The organ music and puppets scared the living shit out of me.
