So I am playing the new Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory game and having a gay old time. In the middle of one game things just sort of degrade into a 3D chat room with everyone lobbing grenades at walls while chewin’ the fat. During this conversational interlude one player mentions how he has always hated that those racist jerks at Id never added any black nazi player models, “I mean WTF, they have them for the Allies!”. Of course I, and others, tried to remedy the poor boys ignorance “You dumbass, the Nazis didn’t have any black soldiers!”. To which he replied, “What the hell are you talking about?! Nazis hate Jews and black people ain’t Jewish.”
Yes folks, this is the generation that will soon be controlling the world.
The kabbess - an extremely smart woman - flabberghasts me with what she doesn’t know on two issues: science fiction and religion.
Yesterday in a conversation about something else entirely, it emerged that she had never heard of Star Trek-style teleportation. Had no idea what I was talking about. For some reason I was astonished by this.
And the only things in the bible she’s head of are: Adam & Eve, Jonah and the whale, Noah’s Ark and Jesus. Oh - and she can name “Peter” if you ask her for a disciple. And when I say heard of, I mean heard of. She couldn’t give you the stories. Even as a lifelong atheist I find that pretty incredible, especially in this country where we get these stories every day in school assemblies.
I mean, these are hardly serious things to be concerned about. When it comes to literature, science, art - no problem. As I say, she’s a smart woman. Just has a level of cluelessness on science fiction and religion that to me transcends disinterest and actually defies simple popular cultural knowledge. How can you never have heard of teleporters, for chrissakes?
Ah the loyal ranks of the smacktards. When not running Aimbot in Counterstrike, they are trying to ruin games in Battlefield 1942 with FF and cheats. Or Diablo, Starcraft . . . . (add to list as necessary).
