The most important things a senator does in 2026 are vote on the reconciliation bill with all of whichever president’s legislative priorities, and vote on Supreme Court nominees. Collins 90% of the time backs the gop on those and the 10% she doesn’t is when she has a free vote. Planter won’t do that.
If they support a nazi they are nazi supporters, it is extremely disappointing but there is no defending this.

Nothing is clear-cut unfortunately. I’m not in Maine so I don’t have to worry about this. But this is legitimately a difficult one for me. My always vote to minimize damage, always vote lesser-of-evil coldly pragmatic, practical self would vote for Platner. ‘Better the devil you know, than the one you don’t’ probably doesn’t apply here. Unless Platner is truly a Trojan Horse, which seems unlikely, he is probably a better bet than Collins. Raw numbers alone means something as long as Platner continues to caucus with the Democrats.
But the moral me would have a hard time not abstaining. I don’t really give a shit about the drunken tattoo taken in isolation. It does mean he was a fucking idiot when he was young - drunken tattoos always mean that. And his choice of tattoo even if he didn’t know what it specifically was, means he was a macho bro with shit taste. Which is something I also don’t much respect.
But the other stuff is an added layer of stink. Associate with assholes and I’ll consider you an asshole. It just a matter of whether this rises to the level of it overcoming my pragmatism. As I sit here I don’t know if I have an answer to that.

I would never support a Nazi. From what I’ve read he isn’t a Nazi no matter how much you continue to go on about it.
The only thing that is clear cut here is that you refuse to allow people the opportunity to acknowledge they were wrong in the past and made very poor decisions. Kinda like MAGA.

I don’t understand why we are having a conversation when you don’t know any of the basic facts in discussion. Platner was in Nate Cornacchias podcast, the man is a well known antisemite. He called himself and i quote “a long time fan of his youtube channel”. If you want to claim the guy who wore a nazi tattoo for 20 years and apparently is an avid watcher and fan of antisemite content is somehow not a nazi because Bernie and AOC told you so you are no better than MAGA.
