Sudafed dosage question

Note: I am not seeking and medical advice!
When my sinuses get clogged, I take Sudafed. The “usual” kind is the 30mg tablet.

According to the directions, you are supposed to take 2 every 4-6 hours not to exceed 4 doses (or 8 tablets or 240mg) per 24 hour period.

Not too long ago, they introduced a 120mg tablet. Those you take every 12 hours not to exceed 2 doses per 24 hour period.

Now they’ve come out with a 240mg 24-hr tablet that you take once a day.

Why couldn’t you take 4 or 8 30mg tablets at the same time if they make single tablets that are the same dosage?

two words -

time release.

Same thing that happens if one of those Time release tablets goes off all at once (it happens- rarely mind you)- you get high (as in an Upper or Speed high), and your heart starts beating very fast. It can be dangerous to those with bad hearts.

If you’re healthy, large and with good blood pressure (and heart)- then it could be safe for you to take 3x 30mg tablets. If you are all of those and you feel like experimenting, (and your nose is REALLY plugged, and two don’t seem to help) try and take three once, and see what happens.

Note- I am not a ‘real doctor’ and taking medical advice from a “DrDeth” gets you what you deserve.:stuck_out_tongue:

However, if you are none of those, I’d even advise avoiding the Time-release “all day” dosages/pills. Because IF the pill “goes off all at once”- you’re in trouble.

In NO CASE should you take 8x30mg tablets all at once!!!

:smack:

Time release never occured to me.

I have taken the 12hr w/o problems. I usually wait a few hours after the 12 hours before I take the second dose.

I’ll take a pass on the 24hr ones, though
