Suez

How did the French and Brits talk the Israelis into attacking Egypt?

If I remember correctly, Nasser blocked the straight which nearly encloses the Gulf of Aquaba, essentially closing off the Israeli port city of Eliat and denying Israel shipping routes to the Red Sea. At the same time, the Sinai Peninsula was being used as a staging area for Palestinian guerillas.

So when Nasser also nationalized the Suez canal, it was only logical that the U.K. and France would think to enlist the help of the Israelis.

Thanks.
