Sugar loaf

Today’s taste of trivia: I always thought Sugar Loaf in Rio was named for some kind of bullet shaped cake or bread, but typical web meandering today brought me to sugarloaves, the way sugar was sold before granulation. Never knew that. According to Wiki, they required special pliers to break off pieces. I can’t help but think a mallet and small chisel would have worked as well. I guess sugar loaf will be filed in my head right along salt cellar which, interestingly enough, is not a room under a house.

Sugar nips is also not a synonym for sugar tits.

If you ever visit an historical house, they often have a replica sugarloaf among the kitchen displays–sometimes 2 or 3 feet tall.
