Hey-
I know this probably happens quite a bit, but I had to sign on to respond to Cecil’s column about sugar rushes and children. Did any of those studies examine the effects on children with glycemic issues, either hypo- or hyper-?
I myself have been hypoglycemic my entire life, and I definitely noticed a brief increase in energy upon ingesting something highly sugary- and shortly thereafter, a very pronounced sense of warmth and lethargy. Eating more sugar alleviated the lethargy somewhat- although that crash was always waiting.
Are there studies done on this phenomena, or studies that show how common such a condition is among children- ie, a colloquial phenomenon with bad folk etymology?
Thanks-
