Suggest a god game

No, I didn’t misspell good, I’m looking for some fun god games. I have only recently been looking and these types of games, but two that I can think of that I liked were Dungeon Keeper 2 and Startopia (I think that was the name, you ran your own space station). I also liked Black and White, but didn’t like the amount of focus on the creature. So, with all that said, what god games do you, my fellow gamers, like to play.

I don’t like god games.

That being said, the Civilization series is famously addictive.

Enjoy.

The Sims is enjoyable. I prefer only adding one or two expansions to keep the game from being too ludicrous. I don’t want magic and alien abductions.

Black and White takes a while to get your teeth into, but it’s hilarious and has oodles of depth.

I second the Civilization series. Nothing is more satisfactory than taking a band of nomads with stone spears and guiding them along to nuclear ICBMs which they can use to smite their ancient blood enemies.

And once you finish a game of Civilization, find a copy of Alpha Centauri and do the same thing on an alien world.

Definitely Age of Mythology

And the sequel is expected out around the first week of July

In similar veigns, I recomend: RR Tycoon 2, Master of Orion 2 (3 is inferiorin both cases).

There’s also the Age of Wonders series, if you like fantasy.

Slightly different is Galactic Civilisations.

I strongly recomend Tropico, where you are the dictator of a small carribean island. It’s kinda like a city building game, but with a lot more control and a lot more politics involved. The game is very complex and deep, but the interface to play it is relatively simple, as you can’t really do anything other than have stuff built, change building wages/settings, and issue edicts. It has a great sense of humor, and there is a role-playing aspect in that you can create your dictator from a wide variety of backgrounds, qualities, flaws, and choose how they rose to power (this will determine how unhappy your people are if you need to cancel an election).

I forgot to mention, there is a ‘Tropico: Mucho Macho Edition’ which is Tropico plus the expansion pack, and it is currently available in a ‘Maximum Strategy’ package that is available at most Wal-Marts, which includes Tropico: Mucho Macho Edition and Stronghold for $10.

I forgot to mention some of the interesting things about this game…nearly every one of your population can be seen walking around your island taking care of their daily needs (only the babies stay at home). You can click on a person, see their name, where they were born, their age, education, happiness levels (in 10 different categories), political leanings, and who they are related to. You can even tell what they are thinking, which is funny sometimes (‘There are aliens inside my head!’). If you have someone arrested who has a large family, that’s a lot of people who are likely to vote against you in the next election. One time I found out the Tropican with the least respect for me was a kid, I couldn’t kill him (game won’t allow you to execute or arrest anyone under 13, or declare them heretics either), so I killed both his parents and made him an orphan! Hah! Then I had the mother-in-law of the soldier I had kill them killed to thank him.

I found RRT3 slightly better than the previous one after getting used to the new controls and the 3D view. The map editor is a bit lacking though.

Could a passing Mod please fix that quote?

Populous: The beginning.

It’s old, but very adictive and it’s simplicity makes it even better.

My only criticism is that you can’t have more than 200 followers.

I can’t wait for Molyneux to create a sequel to this brilliant game.
