Suggestion: Add new-envelope icon to search answer list
Also, add a button on the main menu to search for your own posts.
Then you’d immediately answer the main question people search for: Did anyone comment after I (in your case, you:)) did?

The old board had a ‘current active topics’ feature - is this similar to what you are talking about? It would list all of the topics that had been posted to within the last 24 hours (I think).
Also, I’m not sure how this works or if it does, but at the bottom of the reply window there is a box to check that says “Email Notification: emails sent to you whenever someone replies.” I assume that by checking this box you would be notified whenever a post was made to that thread, whether or not it was a reply to your post.
You might try it out and see what happens.
Okay, on the main message board page, there is a ‘View New Posts’ thingy to click on. At the top where it logs in your visit. That might be what you are looking for.
No, those are not related to the suggestion.
Perhaps a concrete image would help:

Note how only those items with newer posts would get the red envelope.
You wouldn’t waste time checking the other threads.
All the dates are available for the comparison, just as they are on the forum pages.
Kindly do NOT put stuff on the board that screws up the formatting; having to scroll back and forth is difficult to read and very annoying to our forum members.
At the present time, we’re busy trying to get the board 100% and keep it going; any further refinements are further down the road, so just hold on to your ideas for a bit, please. To quote how I put it in another thread, we’re not unpacked yet and you’re yelling about the curtains.
What we really need from you folks is serious testing of the system and reporting to us of malfunctions/glitches/bugs. When we get everything up and all problems ironed out, then maybe we can talk about other considerations.
your humble TubaDiva
Administrator
I like it.
If that’s not easy enough, the right column could be “Last Post”, same as the board listings. Then, if the last name isn’t yours, someone has added since you did.
It looks quite nice to me. There’s no scrolling whatever.
I noticed on another post that the SD board doesn’t work with older versions of Netscape in general. I previewed first and squeezed the picture as much as I could by removing empty space.
As for the curtain stuff, it would seem that right now is when someone at SD is making suggestions to the software folks. Later, there will be some other crisis to overshadow it.
If you just pass everyone’s suggestions on, you won’t have to deal with them. Also, you can just ignore them until later. I’m not in a hurry like some of the others.
Screwed up MY word wrap. Welcome back.
P.S. When TubaDiva says, “Hey, don’t do that,” the correct answer is not, “Looks OK to me.”
The correct response would have been, “oops, sorry, won’t happen again.”
File for future reference, 'kay?
Actually, There is already a date column.
If the date is the last post for the thread, then just adding the time would be a big help.
How does one know when to use the
“search in” pull down.
Does it make any difference when
used with “search with user name”?
If so, do you need to specify
“entire message”
or “subject only”?
Which would do what?
John, the Last Post column DOES have the time as well as the date.
Anna, I’m sorry I snapped at you. I went over to the Pit and saw you really are trying to talk nice to Bjorn and other people. So I’m sorry. :o
Also, it’s partly because I’m reading all these ATMB threads and listening to the children whine. Very irritating, you know? “These curtains are ugly, and look at this linoleum!”
Sheesh.
Huh?
How can you say “oops, sorry, won’t do it again.” If you can’t see anything wrong and don’t know what you did?
It shows up just fine on my machine as well.
pat
Sorry, I guess with all the sidebars, I should have added that I was talking about the original subject.
The search results screen has no time, that’s all I was observing.
I guess people post while I’m writing and previewing, so it seems disjointed.
This board is a lot rougher than I’m used to. Sorry.
Sorry bout that, your new post wasn’t there when I posted. Please forgive, one million pardons!
pat
I don’t know why this thread looks normal for some people and not for me and, at least, Notthemama. Maybe it’s monitor size? At any rate, for me the word wrap is all screwed up and I have to scroll back and forth to read it.
Might I suggest that we not post to this thread anymore until the admin has a chance to straighten it out? I think AL got her suggestion across with no problem. And more posts might make it more work to straighten out.
AL, you can always come back and bump this to the top once things settle down again.
Oh, and John is right, there is no time on the search page.
Hey, that fixed it, AL! Great idea!
Re: not posting huge graphics:
It’s probably just that, right about the time I started posting here, they were going through a “PLEASE don’t post huge graphics” discussion on ATMB, so I guess I assumed that everybody knew not to post huge graphics.
Re: monitor size and word wrap:
I had a short discussion with Uncle Beer a while back, during which I think we established that yeah, whether a huge graphic screws up your word wrap has to do with the size of your monitor. Actually, come to think of it, it was Bedboy’s short-lived picture of a naked female centaur that provoked the discussion.
Rechen, when you’re typing in the Reply window, you don’t need to hit Return after each line–there’s an automatic word wrap that will do that for you. I’m not sure what your question is getting at–if you tell it “search with user name”, I think it looks for all instances of that user name, even if it’s just when other people are talking ABOUT him. I haven’t experimented with the new and improved Search function yet. Go ahead and fiddle around with it, see what happens. It’s guaranteed not to explode, at least (although there is a danger that the hamster might go into cardiac arrest if you go too fast).
The “pull down” lets you specify exactly which forum you want to search in. Usually you know, for example, “Well, that was a Pit thread”, so there’s no point in asking the hamster to rummage through the entire Archives. Searching the “subject line only” saves time, too, if you know, for example, that it was a thread titled “My Big Penis”. Otherwise, again, Search has to go through the entire Archive, which can take forever.
“Search entire message” is for when it was a discussion of, say, “spam” that you’re looking for, but you can’t remember the title of the thread or who else was participating or even which forum it was in.
Need to know, right away, how Annalamerino did that!
EDITED HER OWN POST?! “rotated the graphic 90 degrees”?
Thought we WEREN’T PHYSICALLY PERMITTED TO DO THAT–“EDIT” BUTTON NOT SUPPOSED TO WORK!?
Or did I miss something in a major way?
Tuba? Did YOU do that?
