When reading through a thread, I often have to scroll back to the top to remind myself of who the OP is. Depending on the context, whether the comment or question in a post is from the OP or from another poster determines my response. Right now, every post shows the poster’s name in blue. Is is possible to change the OP’s name to another color for posts in his/her thread?
Every time you enter a thread, hit CTRL+F, and then type the OP’s name. That will highlight every instance of that name. This also allows the administrators to not have to alter the board’s code to satisfy a truly bizarre request for posters that can’t remember a one- or two-word phrase for a period of 90 seconds.
‘Truly bizarre’ is a bit of an over-statement, no? It was actually more of a suggestion than a request. If it’s really that difficult, then I completely understand. Personally, I think it would be a fairly significant value-add to the board experience. If you read through several threads at a time, you too may forget who the OP is. In fact, unless it’s important, I may not even notice the OP the first time around. YMMV.
Personally I rarely care who the op is.
Or…you can just click on the OP’s name, go to their profile, then return to the thread. From then on their name will be grey instead of blue.
Or you could contact this guy.
Newer versions of vBulletin automatically mark the OP in threads with a little tag.
There are no plans for any upgrade in the current version of vBulletin.
I thought it was a good suggestion. I too often need to remind myself who the OP was, sometimes more than once. It’s like when you think: “Oh, what time is it?” and take a look at you phone, and put it down again. And then you go: “What was it?” and you take it back up. I think that is common, you are interested and absent minded at the same time, and the user names are often hard to remember anyways. Too bad we will not get the new version any time soon.
That would include me. I’ve learned to really appreciate the Greasemonkey app, especially when the op is a participant. I seem to not lose track if there is a visual cue attached. I like the suggestion of using the browser find feature for the non-monkey ops.
