I believe it would be beneficial if (during the run of any particular thread) the OP of a thread (their username) could be different in some way. Either put an icon next to their username or maybe colorise the username. Make it Red or something like that.
Is this possible with the version of VB that we use here?
When I’m six pages into a thread I sometimes forgot who started it, or the OP doesn’t come back for three pages, or similar usernames cause confusion when trying to follow along.
Sometimes it might make sense – but other times, not. I’m thinking game threads and weekly discussions of TV shows – in neither of these cases is the OP anything other than (literally) first among equals, and thus shouldn’t be given special treatment.
Occasionally it does matter – When it does, the OP can (should) say something like “OP checking back here…” or whatever.
This wouldn’t be special treatment in any other sense then their username is a different color.
That rarely happens.
In any case, I usually start reading a thread by clicking on the last post icon. This takes me to the latest discussion and I often have no idea who the OP is.
It would prevent me from scrolling back a few pages to find out. Seems it would make things run smoother around here.
Certainly, but sometimes I’ll have the thread (open in a separate tab) up for several days before I get around to reading it or responding to it (like over the weekend). Also, from the front page you don’t get the Author of the thread, just the last poster.
No, silly person, three days old. Saturday, Sunday, then sometimes late Monday afternoon.
Really, even if I do refresh it just shows the additional posts since the last time I viewed it. It doesn’t go back to the first page and show me the OP.
It’s not a big deal, just would be a convenience when reading long threads, or coming back to threads you haven’t seen a while.
You saying that you wouldn’t appreciate such a feature?
