since vulgarities are not allowed in the other forums, why don’t we prohibit them in the thread titles as well? for the same reason these are confined within the pit, they should not be in thread titles as they will show up when the ‘new posts’ button is used.

Other forums prohibit direct personal insults against other members, some stricter than others, but that’s the broad insult, regardless of vulgarity.
In most forums, a tiny bit of vulgarity is often useful to emphasize a point or stress something, but most long-time posters figure out that vulgarity generally detracts from their debating position, or from their response, or whatever. We’ve thus sometimes clamped down on excessive vulgarity – admittedly, a somewhat subjective perspective, but the cases have been pretty obvious. I mean, when “fuck” or some derivation thereof is used three times in every sentence, one draws the line.
However, we’ve never put any restrictions on language usage, so far as I recall.
You bring up a good point. The new posts button displays all thread titles like you said even the ghastly vulgar Pit ones.
Mostly, vulgarity is frowned upon in the other forums, though I don`t think it is forbode. You have a better chance of envoking the Jerk rule and having a Mod come down on you if you curse though.
Thank you. I’ve seen “cussin’ in the pit only!” a hundred times but never saw a rule about it.

While we’re on the subject, swearing is NOT mandatory in the Pit. Some people apparently think it is, and will includ random swear words “because this is the Pit”. It looks stupid, to me. Also, any Pit thread that’s created solely to swear will be locked and the OP warned. You want to type dirty words, open a word processor and type away. Or go to another message board. Any thread that’s opened just to type insults will also be closed, again with a warning.
