Tubadiva has noted that submissions for Threadspotting have died off. I must confess I can’t remember the last time I recommended one myself. Would it be possible to make this easier - say a button on the thread that we could click? Something similar to the Report Post button.
If you’re using Chrome, or Firefox with the Greasemonkey addon, this scripthas got what you need.
It puts a small link above each post that says “Threadspot” which, when clicked, will create an email to **Tubadiva **with the thread URL in the subject.
Take a bow!
Do note that Chrome will not install it from that site. You have to copy the source into Notepad and then save it as something.user.js, then drag and drop it onto the extensions page in Chrome.
Worked for me (in firefox, with Greasemonkey already installed).
How hard is it to copy the URL into an email message to Tubadiva? Does this cause doper stress-out?
Chrome blocks installation directly from that site. There are two minor issues: Tubadiva’s address is incorrect - it should be tubadiva@straightdope.com - and, if you are using Chrome as your mail client you need to right-click the button and select Open In New Tab (or Window).
Given that there is a lack of threadspotting, clearly it is, and anything to make threadspotting easier can only help.
Oddly enough there was a thread I saw the other day that I thought would have made a great threadspotting thread, but, to be honest, I didn’t feel like opening up my email and sending the link. I may have even been reading it on my phone in which case it would be even harder. Also, I didn’t know she was low links to begin with. It’s not that people are stressing out (but I assume you know that), it’s that people are lazy. Now that I can just click a button, it’ll be a lot easier. I’ll have to see if I can find the thread again.
I just had to uninstall it. I didn’t realize it was going to open a mail client, which I don’t have installed on this computer. It tried to open Windows Live, which isn’t set up.
Oh well.
So, I’ll suggest that maybe they try to add a ‘real’ link. Even if it’s just like one of those little bookmark icons at the bottom (which, I have to wonder, if anyone has ever actually used).
Yes this is the case for all userscripts that aren’t for sale on the Google app store - it can be downloaded and then dropped manually into the Chrome extensions window.
The email address is from the SD front page under the threadspotting section:
As far as I can tell, currently the only mechanism for submitting a thread is to email Tubadiva.
Ah, in the stickied thread it’s tubadiva@straightdope.com. I guess they’ll both work.
Yes, both addresses are good.
What do the bookmarks icon do? I don’t actually want to click on one until I know what it does.
