I know that the software that runs the SDMB is a commercial product, but I was wondering if an enhancement is possible.
Namely, I think it would be nice to highlight some way those posts that have a higher view to response ration. The basic idea is that while a high view count might be impressive, it really only demonstrates the ability of the poster to write an interesting title. The number of responses is, IMHO, a much more accurate of a posts worth.
I understand that number of responses is already there, what I was really thinking of though was an icon or something that would make it easy for others to see which posts had that highest view to response ratio.
I think that its possible to display icons for “hot” items and items that have new posts. What about interesting posts?
I don’t post here that often but I do come and read alot. These boards include an option for users to rate each thread they read. It looks as though it is disabled on this board however.
On the front page of any forum, to the right of the column entitled “replies” and to the left of the rightmost column, which is entitled “Last Post”, lurks the fourth column from the left. It is called “views” and it tells you how many times the thread in question has been accessed. If you’re interested in obtaining a view-to-response ratio, whip out the trusty abacus and divide the number found in the “replies” column by the number found in the “views” column. Voila – instant view-to-response ratio.
JamesCarroll:
a) I am not convinced that a post with a high view to response ratio is necessarily the most interesting one. E.g. a thread with the title “JamesCarroll - get your butt in here and tell me about your new car!” might attract few viewers because of the specific title, but that doesn’t mean it’s interesting to anyone else.
b) In any case, the change you propose would require source code modifications, which we don’t do.
