Any ideas for fun songs that I can easily play with my right hand (and maybe even sing along with)? I want to play for my infant son while holding him in my left arm. Tonight I got as far as “Doe, A Deer” but the creative juices ran dry. He loved it so I want some more ideas!
If you could switch hands, you could play Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand. You may need to practice a lot.
If you’re just doing a melody line with your right hand, there are tons of children’s songs you can play. I was going to suggest Mary Had a Little Lamb or Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Check out the list here. You don’t actually have to buy the sheet music – if you know these tunes, most of them can easily be picked out on the piano with a few minutes’ effort.
These are the kinds of things that I pick out when I get near a piano, and I don’t even have a babe in arms as an excuse. It sound like the two of you are having fun, and you’re probably instilling a love of music at the same time.
Cool list! Thanks!
