Speculation right now is it was a failed plot, as the bomber exploded (apparantly by accident) in the parking lot before entering the stadium. A 2nd device was found… ??? big maybe here… ???
Should know more details as the night goes on. Will update with a link when one is posted.
Holy shit. I’m so glad that no one else was killed!
Oh my word. Thank heavens more people weren’t hurt or killed.
Two devices, one exploded on the person carrying it, killing them.
The 2nd device found in a backpack. Unclear as to whether it was abandoned by another bomber or part of the suicide’s arsenal.
Will update when that is cleared up.
The police kept it hushed up till near the end of the game. It happened near halftime, stadium went on lockdown. Friend at game calls me to ask if any news about the massive explosion they heard. News finally gets to tell after police clear exits of stadium. Bomb explodeed about 8:20 or so, first public news at about 9:45.
Of course, the stations are cautious about telling too much. In 1995, inaccurate news reports lead to anti-arab violence.
I thought this was a sick joke about ahahaha, nobody attends Oklahoma U games…
but it’s not. Aw, crap. I’m really, really glad nobody else was injured or killed…
Okay. I read the news article posted. Did anyone besides the [insert pit-worthy insult here] suicide bomber die?
According to local TV news, no.
Why can I not find this on the news anywhere?
Regardless, if correct, I guess this would end the speculation about whether or not anybody would ever try to hit middle America…

Oh, get bent. I read the link. I was saying if it’s actually an attempted suicide bombing and all of that is what it appears to be.
Yeah, have it happen in your city and see whther implied trolling accusations don’t irritate you.
I didn’t imply anything about trolling, and I’m from New York. Chill the fuck out.
And if it was simply a poor choice of words on your part, I’ll back off and turn down the anger. Otherwise… it happened, I posted it here in good faith, national news finally picked it up.

NoClueBoy, FWIW, I was born and raised in Oklahoma City, and my father is an alum of OU. I still have family in OKC and Norman. Plus, I live in NYC, the mother of all terrorist targets. And I still didn’t think Marley23 meant any harm by what he said.
But hopefully it was just some nut who chose to do himself in in a public place. It definitely shook me up, but until I hear otherwise, I’m doubtful it was the act of a terrorist.
A second device would argue against the “only wanted to off themselves” theory. Still all we really know is that an explosion happened and one person is dead. We don’t know motives or if this was a conspiracy gone wrong or a “go out with flair” suicide gone right. As horrible as it sounds, the latter is probably preferable.

The other thing I was wondering about, and I hope my last statement in that post makes it clear, is “was this a lone nut or not?” It looks like it probably was, but that kind of thing may take days to figure out. When I hear about a bombing, I think terrorism, and I was saying if that is correct, it would appear someone did finally go after middle America, and a sporting event.
If you felt my question was a hint that this whole thing didn’t happen, I’m sorry. An AP story like the one in your link is more than enough for me. I was saying I have no idea why it would take the New York Times, Washington Post and CNN an hour to post something about this, as they’ve only done so in the last few minutes. When I saw this thread, I flipped to the ESPN stations and (briefly) CNN and Fox and saw nothing, which is confusing. I guess all the are treating this as nothing but a lone crazy and ignoring the fact that it’s a bombing, since as I post, nobody is talking about it.
As I said, it was probably just a poor choice of words, so I’ll back off. Remember, OKC was already hit, Middle America had a home grown terrorist who killed 168 Oklahomans on April 19th, 1995.
As for whatever news comes of this, I’m sure there will be much discussion. And I will just stay out of it. I was on the scene in 1995 helping out as I was able. I had friends at this game tonight. So… a bit of an emotional attatchment here, you see…
