Perhaps the roomie was going to Algeria.
It’s been speculated that some other suicide bombers (like the London July 7 guys) didn’t know that they weren’t coming back from their missions, and I suppose that if this guy was sent by someone else, it’s possible Hinrichs was under the same impression.
There are a lot of what-ifs in there; obviously a ticket to Algeria looks a little more significant in light of what he did. But it raises its own questions, as you noted.
You know what’s weird about this situation? The media’s been jumping all over that New York Subway terrorist threat (which is almost certainly a case of the Bush Administration “wagging the dog” and has absolutely no basis in fact, but that’s a subject for another debate) yet over in Oklahoma there’s a GENIUNE BONAFIDE TERRORIST INCIDENT which is being totally IGNORED by the mainstream press, except for the local station in OK City. Or maybe I shouldn’t be surprised?
I mean, the whole thing could be a coincidence. Millions of people go to an Islamic Center every day, and only some of them are terrorists. And if J.H. Hendrichs wanted to kill people, but couldn’t get into the stadium, he could just have easily waited until the game let out and THEN detonated himself in the midst of the exiting crowd. Did he have a change of heart? Or is everything the OK City station reporting based on speculation and bullshit? I guess we’ll never know for sure…
…but I sure hope the FBI’s grilling that Arab roomie in a small room with a bare lightbulb. It’s better to be safe than sorry, after all.
The Dept. of Homeland Security said that the threat was of doubtful credibility. Mayor Bloomberg was the one who announced the threat and stepped up subway security.
