Summer Reading Help

My mother wants a book that fits the following guidelines for our vacation this summer:
[ul]
[li]novel[/li][li]fun, but adds meaning to life rather than detracting[/li][li]uplifting, without being overly deep[/li][li]not big print[/li][li]Smaller than Hawaii, larger than Tuesdays with Morrie[/li][/ul]

And she has already read Life of Pi - which was my first idea.

I’m going to go harass some poor book clerk with this list - any thoughts from the ever so together Teeming Millions?

The Mammoth Cheese. I haven’t read it, but I want to.

You Remind Me of Me by Dan Chaon

I just read, and really liked, The Eyre Affair…but I’m not sure I’d go so far as to say that it “adds meaning to life”

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time might fit the bill. It was funny, poignant and weirdly fascinating. Best book I read last year.
