Summer Vacation Plans?

We were going to do Israel / Greece to celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary but the (expletive deleted) new furnace took that money. So Washington DC / Wildwood NJ it is instead. My kids love the beach and a lot of the DC attractions are indoors.

I’m going to sign up for a weeklong SF State course on camera trapping, up in the high Sierras. Been wanting to do it for years, and I’m not working right now, so perfect opportunity!

I’ve started my own business and my wife is teaching so our summer holidays are as long as we want them to be.

We live right by the channel crossings so we are taking nearly four weeks off and driving to Austria, stopping off here and here on the way and staying here, here and here. Lots of walking, swimming, climbing, spas, cake and beer. Maybe even some sledging or skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn if the weather allows.

Bolding mine… What is that? I’ve never heard of it, and I’m intrigued.

As for us: We’re planning a few short camping trips but nothing big this year. This year we’ve had to replace the air conditioner, the roof, the fence, and put new tires on 3 vehicles. All this, combined with our youngest’s college tuition has limited us to a few camping and boating trips at nearby parks.

I do get a trip to the 4-Corners and Monument Valley next month. I’m trading flying duties (my expenses are paid, if I’ll fly the plane). All in all a pretty good deal, imo.

I don’t know yet when my summer vacation will be, but I do know I’m not rich enough to travel anywhere too far. I do plan to go to a local summer music festival.

Topsail Island, N.C. A cold alcoholic beverage will rarely be absent from my hand.

10 days in Iceland will be the big trip this summer. We’ve got a short trip to the SF area in July for a wedding that we’ll extend a few days and explore.

Next week I’ll be in Bishop, CA for my annual college friend gathering. the location rotates - it is usually just the weekend but some of us extending it to get some outdoor activites in

My big vacation is Cycle Greater Yellowstone I’m taking the week off plus an extra day on each end to drive. I also want to spend some time in Grand Teton / Yellowstone but haven’t firmed my plans yet.

We took our big trip for the year over spring break. Two weeks driving across 16 states, visiting friends and family on the way, seeing the country. So, no big summer vacation for us. Maybe a weekend camping trip. Maybe Disneyland in the fall or winter.

We’d planned a road trip from southern MN to the Florida panhandle with stops along the way at Civil War sites. But the weather isn’t cooperating either here or there and soon it will be hot there. So we’ll probably postpone that until the fall.

Another possibility is a trip to Reno for a cousin reunion with a stop at Glacier National Park and through the North Dakota badlands on the way home.

The thing is that MN, with its many lakes, is a very nice place to spend the summer and there are many small lake-side resorts near us where we can spend time at a lake without a long drive.

I do know that we’ll do a lot of swimming, motorcycling and grilling.

Aug 27-Sep 22 - cruising the British Isles then transatlantic, with my mother. Mom loves to cruise and she’s always wanted to do a longer one, and my husband doesn’t much like cruising, so she and I will get wild together. Well, as wild as an 80-y/o and a 60-y/o can be.

Other than that, no plans.
