Summer's here!

So, summer has arrived, at least here in the northern hemisphere.

There are things I like and don’t like about summer.

I don’t like how noisy summer is. People are blasting their radios and using their noisy yard tools (weed whackers, electric hedge trimmers, etc.) Also, in summer, everyone on public transit stinks. And a lot of my friends are out of town on vacation.

There are many things I like about summer too. It’s warm out (and it’s usually pretty cold about 7-9 months of the year where I live). The beaches are open. I get some time off work/school. There are some good outdoor concerts. I can sit outside pretty much anywhere on sunny days.

What do you like (or not like) about the summer? Do you have any summer plans?

Oh, and here’s the official anthem of this thread. Enjoy.

I like spring and fall, summer not so much although it is better than winter.

I like that I get to run half nekkid, and that summer clothes take up a lot less space in the washer. I don’t get weird looks for wearing flip flops in the summer time.
Fresh lemonade and juicy tomatoes, and the first snowball of the year are good.

Another thing I don’t like about summer is that a lot of shows on the radio are reruns. Maybe to encourage people to go outside? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, Mungo Jerry speaks for me. And I’m not even going to mention the G-man.

Oboy, Summer! My allergy season is over (well, until Autumn), and all I have to worry about is my tendency to sunstroke! I love Summer!

I’m going to have to ask you to define “snowball”. There are just too many options, and none that I’m thinking of are endemic to summer.:stuck_out_tongue:

I love that school is out, and I get about six weeks off.

Aside from that, now that we’re in the middle of a terrible drought, summer isn’t that much fun. It’s in the high 90’s to low 100’s, there’s no rain, and there are a bunch of forest fires because everything is tinder-dry. This means that most of our mountain recreational areas are closed, so you can’t even get out of the city into a slightly cooler environment. And just to ice the cake, some days the smoke blows into the city, which means that we are supposed to close our windows and turn off our evaporative coolers so they don’t pull smoke into the house.

+1 on Mungo Jerry.
If you call my number that is what you’ll be listening to until I answer the phone.

A cup full of packed shaved or chipped ice that is saturated with some type of yummy colorful flavored sugar water.
I think they taste best when eaten with a wooden paddle.

Egg Custard is my favorite, but I like cherry, orange, and root beer too.
I prefer them without the marshmallow topping.

Nowadays I like to take my vacations on the “shoulder” of summer to avoid the crowds (right before Memorial Day/right after Labor Day). But I love summer; I still feel the vibe and echo of memories from those months of freedom when I was growing up in San Diego.

Summer is here? Drought?

That was all soooooo last Saturday. Yesterday it rained. (S. F. Bay Area and surrounding regions.)

And guess when I was in northern CA? That’s right - the one weekend that temps were over 100 degrees (the Bay Area was sure nice, though)!

Sure, it’s rained there. It’s rained a lot of places. But it never, ever rains here anymore.

Ah! 'Round here those are called “snow cones”. A snowball is a round, creme filled pastry coated with coconut (available year round), or a lump of snow compressed into a sphere (only available in the winter, a not often then) or a…well, I’ll let you Google the other if you dare. Safe Search off!

Summer is arriving in Portland on July 1 (actually a little earlier), right on schedule. We’re heading for the mountains.

My uncle from CA doesn’t know why we call them snowballs, they aren’t balls they’re cones. But here they are snowballs.
We also have the coconut covered pastries called snowballs, but for some reason they are pink, not white.
It’s been years since I have been in a snowball battle, used to be the girls against the guys.
No comment on the other kind
