Summertime and the living is sleazy in the MMP

I don’t know but we certainly gave him something to chew on. Some food for thought, as it were. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Odd thing is, just before he started this I began reading The Indifferent Stars Above: the Harrowing Saga of a Donner Party Bride. Sorta interesting little book.)

Our version was going to live with relatives for a week and their version was coming to live with us. Usually there would be a museum or something involved but those were often free admission --------- and THAT was something we could afford!

Free admission = Smithsonian! An easy drive from the Baltimore suburbs, and way back when, you could usually find parking on the mall without too much hassle. We loved going to the Natural History Museum and hated the art gallery - we were kids! I’m sure we’d have loved the Air and Space Museum if it had existed, but back then, all they had were a few rockets by the castle. Good times…

Did you say to the party that woke you up, “I’m walkin’ here”?

 Wow! The things we learn about people here!

Oh hush. I got a muffin for me. I didn’t want to flaunt it and make you all jealous. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dammit.

Got to break fast this morning with my colleagues; ‘team-building’ exercise by my boss, who is a pretty good guy, even if he isn’t the best ‘boss’ in the world. He picked up the tab, so I had three big Buttermilk Pancakes with Bacon and a Sweet Tea.

Now I’m back at work and feeling bloated (which is why I don’t eat pancakes very often, although I love them…). Signed up for 3 on-line classes (I have until 30 September to complete them, but the Big Boss wants them all done by 30 July, because…damn if I can figure it out.

Thirteen months to retirement.

Grrr. The humidity must be in league with the electric company. sigh On goes the a/c

Because we’re going to a place I like, and my dad and sister haven’t been there before, and they are nice people to be around when they’re not getting in each other’s hair. This is really my sister’s vacation, since she almost never gets to go anywhere on vacation, and having our dad there too will be useful if he can help out with stuff.

I do think we can have a good time if we can work everything out.

Does he not have insurance?
[/QUOTE]

Oh, we have insurance. It’s just that the meds that keep him alive are classed by the insurance company, or more likely by the formulary manager, CVS Caremark, as “non-preferred brand” meds. I don’t pretend to understand the pricing mechanisms at play, but one of them costs us $150 and the other is $220. Who has an extra $370 a month?

Stuff like this makes me pine for the days when I had Kaiser. All “formulary” meds were $1 each, and office visits were free. Their doctors knew what was available at the pharmacy, so “non-formulary” problems were uncommon. They’d even deliver prescription refills to the store for free. Of course, that was 25 years ago. No idea what they charge now.

I do remember that they had a rather efficient system. AIUI, Kaiser Permanente was a leader in pre-packed meds. Instead of getting a bottle of 1000 pills to be counted out and bottled per person, they’d have the drug manufacturers put a normal month’s supply of pills per bottle, so all they had to do at the pharmacy was grab a bottle off the shelf, slap a label on it and say NEXT!

Sis and I fed the ducks and geese there when I was up in February. It’s a pretty area.

ruble, did your book come complete with recipes?

It’s slow today and we’re fully staffed for the first time in three weeks. Month/quarter end/midyear was a rush, but now everything has died down enough that I’m watching craft videos to kill time.

Just finished watching season 1 of Bloodline. Definitely a season 2 coming, based on the cliffhanger at the end of the episode.

And I finished the shawl I was crocheting. Time to check out the yarn stash for the next project. What to do, what to do…?

Well, theykind of did. It’s Donner Memorial State Park, but unless wiki got it wrong, the Pioneer Monument is dedicated “in honor of all who made the difficult trek across the western plains and mountains to reach California during the 1840s.” Although the monument does show the depth of snow That Year, and the location is where they stopped due to that snow, the museum and all provide information about other pioneers, too. The cabins that the Donner Party stayed in, for instance, had been built by previous pioneers.

Shoot. Now I want to go visit. There are a lot of little museums up in gold country. Maybe one year I’ll do a connect the dots trip.

Inventory is done, I got sent home early. Good thing, after 2 hours of sleep last night, I need another nap.

It’s much safer and smarter to park at a Metro station and take the train in. But, yeah, the Smithsonian rocks!

I’m at the denthist today, getting some cavities filled. Hallelujah for good, free dental insurance!

All the laundry is in and put away. My sweetie pulled into the garage just as I was getting ready to haul everything inside. As I take clothes down, I fold them and put them in separate baskets - one for him and one for me. I’m so organized and efficient! So he took his basket and I took mine. All was stowed in a few minutes.

It’s mid-80s with a little breeze, so it’s not too terrible to be out, as long as you’re not doing something strenuous. I thought about pulling a few weeds, but that thought passed really fast!

FCD came home early and he’s in the basement again. I’ve got time to kill till 5, when I need to pull supper together. For now, tho, I’m hydrating and surfing.

That’s definitely how we do it now. I was talking about family trips in the 60s when I was a skinny little blonde thing. Fifty plus years ago there was no Metro and not near as much problem with parking.

I had that kind of deal until the ACA went into effect; I was one of those unlucky enough to have their plan cancelled. Now almost half my reason for seeing the doctor is “I can’t afford what you want but the pharmacist says I can afford this. Can we both live with that change?”

Ahhhhh, the joys of adulthood in the modern world.

No but ------- it does suggest as further reading “To Serve Mankind” written by some Kanamits dude.

Keep en eye on your thighs.

Can you set any ground rules? I hate going on vacation with family. I don’t mind his family as much, but their biggest problem is indecisiveness, whereas mine doesn’t consider it a vacation until someone’s going home sulking.

Howdy Y’all! I survived irk. Only three more days until the weekend! Enchiladas for dindin tonight. The oven is warmin’ up. When it’s up to temp I shall pop the casserole dish full of enchiladas in the oven. I made it up last night. I also shredded lettuce and chopped 'maters up. There’s even guacamole, sour cream and jalapeños to go on top. Olè!

Keep abreast of your breast.
