The "What are your summer plans?" MMP

As kids, we always knew exactly what we wanted to do when school was out and summer was ours. Funny how that changes when you become a bill-paying adult. Still, summer is traditionally vacation time.

Do you have plans? Whatcha gonna do?

For me, apart from my 4-week cruise in Aug/Sep, I have nothing in mind. Futzing in the yard, enjoying retirement, maybe a short camping trip - who knows. I don’ need no steenkin’ plans!

Happy Moanday!

FIRST!!!

Other than a trip to Boston to play with my Mensa friends and see the fam, I have nothing lined up. I’m such a social butterfly, … not.

also BLURF.

Good morning!

I hope all the moms out there had a good day, yesterday.

As for things around here, and vacation plans, there are none. We’ll spend the summer working on trying to finish up the building of the shed out back, and that sort of thing.

Have a good day, if at all possible!

My only summer plans are going to Ireland for a week to go to a cjuggling convention. The rest of the holidays shall be spend frantically trying to pay for it.

I’m hoping this does not involve doing any more of these stoopid festival ‘security’ gigs, cos that was ridiculous. In order to get the contract, and without actually mentioning it to us, the boss had signed us up to do litter picking and clear up- at night. Sattiday night/Sunday morning I had to start shift at 1ay emm, and spend 5 hours clearing all the horribly muddy debris out of the bar tent, as well as patrolling. For only slightly more than minimum wage. Then I had an immediate next shift when I got back- in fact, I didn’t really get a break until we left the site at 2.30pm.

If I hadn’t done that shift though, I would only have had 7 hours work the whole weekend, which would have been ridiculous in a different way. Oh, and it was insanely windy- my tent collapsed at 9.30 Sattiday night- luckily it’s an easy fix, 'cos I need it next week for a juggling convention, which I’m currently not looking forward to at all, after a weekend of hell camping. I know it won’t be the same, I always really enjoy that event, but at the moment, my brain is going "You’re going to pay for going camping again??? Next week??! Are you crazy?!!!?

The wind was so bad, we were pulling trashed tents out of the hedgerows, and they just straight up cancelled the events on the final day, and just set us to going round and helping people get their tents down, rather than doing badge control. That bit was actually a nice change- being paid to be nice to people, rather than boss them around (and the horizontal rain had finished by then as well), but the rest of it was horrid.

I got home 3.30pm yesterday, went for a ‘nap’ shortly after, and woke up 10am this morning. That pretty much says it all, I think.

Hope the rest of you had a better weekend! I’m off to shower for a few hours, I was going to have one after my ‘nap’…

Sometime this summer I’m going to find the Brevard Fault Zone. I may also venture into Tennessee.

In honor of Monday I bring you “Blurf: Actual Footage.”

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 89 for the day. Not too shabby. Of course I will not be out and about as I am irkin’ from da cave bein’ as I am in an infirm condition and all.

I have no real plans for this Summer other than hangin’ at the cee-mint pond whenever possible. That reminds me, I have an urge to go buy shark repellant for some reason. I am a Summer baby which means this July I will be the big 6-0. One would think I would want to plan sump’n to mark the occasion but really, I just don’t see it as that big of a deal. Maybe a biiiiiiiiig cee-mint pond partay the weekend before as my birthday falls on Toosday. As a kid with a Summer birthday that meant I got to go runnin’ around wild with all my hooligan friends, which was pretty much any Summer day. Thus, I never cared about birthday parties and such. I had a few at my mom’s insistence (insistance?), but really, runnin’ wild all day and then comin’ home to ice cream and cake was a great birthday for me. Of course, when I reached my adultery I was kinda cheesed over the idea that I would have to irk on my birthday but I got over that soon enough.

Nuts sounds like a sucky weekend. At least you got paid for it and survived, so yay for that at least.

Now, I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then I shall clean myself up. Hey, just cause I’m at da cave does not mean that I cannot be a little presentable. I do have to deal with a conference call this mornin’. ICK!

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Ziva is not happy. I’ve locked all of the critters out of the bedroom so **FCD **can sleep in a bit. His dad has been up but went back to bed also - still, it’s a stranger in her house and she wants to hide under the bed. She was wandering around crying (or whining, or complaining - not sure which) but she’s settled under the dining room table for now. As soon as the bedroom door opens, she’ll go hide under my side of the bed.

It’s lovely and cool right now, but we’re promised upper 80s with humidity. I’ll hate having to close up and turn on the air, but there’s not a lot I can do about that. I’ll just put it off as long as I can, then reopen when it cools down - later this week.

Spring needs to last longer. Summer sucks.

My summer plans:

[ol]
[li]Mow the yahd;[/li][li]Buy groceries on Firdays;[/li][li]Survive until fall.[/li][/ol]

I’ll wing everything else.

Oh, and BLURF. I’m actually happy to be at irk today. I need the rest.

Mornin’, all. I’m eating, caffeinating, and have my Zune plugged in to get ready for an hour-long bus ride to Harrisburg. I have four civil service tests this week and another five next week. And lunch duty and doctor’s appointments and all the other crap I couldn’t do because of irk. And, of course, the freelance stuff I’ve got lined up to, y’know, pay bills and stuff.

As far as my summer goes, the dance card is filling up. My birthday is next month, the sprog’s is in August, and he gets to visit Arizona with one set of grandparents and Texas to see the other. I’ve got two conventions, one at the end of this month and another in August, and those are usually fun and rewarding. (Both are for Al-Anon. One is for personal growth and the other is the state business meeting.) And work and finding same.

Swampy, good luck irkin’ from the cave, and it sucks that you have shingles. I had that when I was 12 and it was. not. fun.

The rest of y’all, have a great day!

We’re gonna hit some PA amusement parks with friends, have a party to celebrate two years in the new house, go tubing and attend a conference in Vegas. Neither of us has been there before. We can’t wait!

We also have to fix the front gate, clean the gutters, and do yard work. Let’s see if I can weed the flower garden without being attacked by yellowjackets this year.

Don’t know what my plans are for the summer yet. I’m not rich enough to go anywhere, probably. Well, there is the music festival.

I do have travel plans for next weekend! New York, here I come!

Morning all,

I think I did all my summer plans this past weekend. We unsodded the garden, rototilled it, box it in, amended the soil, dug holes in it, and finally planted stuff. We also sanded and painted a corner cabinet that my parents brought. My dad removed a stump and several wayward limbs. My mom organized a couple of my kitchen cabinets. I has a very large tired today but it is a good one.

We got quotes from ‘h’-air-conditioning people and now I need to call one of them back and tell them they have won the honor of taking all our hard earned cash.

If you’re planning a trip to Hersheypark, let me know. Maybe we can get together for lunch or something.

I was weeding last week, and I inhaled gnats - there’s a fun time! :stuck_out_tongue: And I’ve got bumps all over my arms and legs - apparently I was a buffet as I worked. Stoopit bugs.

I’m all showered, dressed, first load in the washer, and making a shopping list. Do I know how to have fun or what??? I need to run by the little store, too - I sold some stuff in April and they’ve got a check for me. Wonder if it’ll break $20??

Still cool and loverly - the heat hasn’t descended yet. So there’s that.

Good morning everyone.

Tell Kenny Kangaroo I said hello.

For this summer, we’re probably going to make a trip up to Pittsburgh (it’s been awhile since we’ve been up there), maybe another trip to the Eastern Shore (Maryland part), and not much else. I gotta finish digging out a fire pit, maybe try our hands at building rain barrels, and getting ready for the oldest stepdaughter’s wedding in October. And of course work. Lots and lots of work.

I have vacation days and I have kids that live with their mom. I have to see how the two collide.

Went down to see my parents yesterday; my sister drove down from Connecticut and we had a nice time. Though as a rule we don’t observe the Hallmark Days, it just happened to be a nice time for the four of us to get together and be a family unit: had lunch then sat in lawn chairs in the shade & breeze for a few hours before heading home.

Yay, another week of work. I am excited.

My summer plans had better include moving to Maine, but we’re still up in the air.

I’ve been missing for a few weeks–last week at work was very busy, and first week at home was possibly busier. But today I have nothing to do except maybe run to the store and get more coffee so I don’t run out later this week. I would have things to do if I went and bought more boxes, but Roomie thinks I should stop packing things until we know when we’re moving. Just because all the pot lids are in storage and we had to cover a frying pan with another frying pan in order to make dinner. She’s so picky like that.

Blurf!

I have summer plans, they involve being in Mexico in two weeks’ time and then comign home to find another job. After that, I will be swanning off to London a couple of times for weddings, and then to Hungary for a week at the end of August to visit friends.

Today I have irksome stuff at irk. Staff training for my replacement who started today and has now disappeared again…and several problems with exam stuff like invigilators not showing up and students querying exam questions that require an academic to physically go to the exam venue.

Those Sri Lankan spiders had better be sharpening their pointy sticks, they will be having a busy day.

No travel this year, I’m broke, and have no vacation time. I might hand out a bit at the complex ceement pond. I’ll have to bring shark repellant in case the 1st couple of salvos fall short.

Also new phone is pissing me off. It may be Hammer Time shortly.

Welcome Yinzer!

Mooommmm, I was awakened by roomie’s cat shrieking at the top of his lungs, and Gordie sitting by my bed and gurgling his stomach at me. Stoopid critters.

“summer” and “plans” have ceased to be in the same sentence since I joined the ranks of school district/bus things. What a lot of people fail to realize is that there’s that ‘select’ rank of 12-month employees in any district that don’t get summers off.

June: Compiling and completing the state reporting information, filling out the state reimbursement, catching up on new registrations that come in all summer - getting them assigned to buses, etc., drivers coming in through the summer to dry run their fall routes and then making needed corrections to those, ESY (summer school) runs through the whole month which this year is 14 buses four days a week. A break from the everyday 75 buses, but still they’re all special needs kids so they need more attention. State transportation director’s annual meeting downstate. A crew of drivers working on detailing our fleet, repairing seats and such. Mechanics are getting each bus up to snuff to go through the state inspection lanes during July.

July: Making final (as much as can be final) changes to bus routes, making sure AM pickup times are accurate (this is why the drivers dry run the routes, to give us feedback); prepare all student bus info for download to the district office so that parents can get their “dear parent, here’s your little brats bus info” letter by mid-July. take eleventy-million calls fro parents saying “but this is different from last year”, patiently explain that yes it is and deal with it; submit start of year driver info to the Sec of State, plan the staff return to school meeting/lunch. Once again harass the SS department for up to date accurate information about where out-of-district placements are going to go, something I should have by NOW (today) but they can never nail down for me.

August: More of the above, but also in the event any bus stops/kids are moved from one bus to another, a mail merge and phone blast explaining the change from the letter they received. Eleventy-million phone calls PER DAY, now parents are remembering their kid goes to grandma’s on alternate Thursdays, so making adjustments in bus assignments for alternate Thursdays (unless she has a migraine in which case it might be the grandma’s neighbor and do we need that name and phone number too? Sometime in the last ten days before school, every driver has to see their routes again so they can complain about changes.

End of August: School starts. Head explodes.
