It’s been pretty pleasant here (except for the rain - which we needed, but did we really have to have rain and clouds all of Saturday and Sunday?). Temps have been high 60s/low 70s.
Tain’t summer yet. Last week, I experienced the extremes of ice on my car Tuesday morning, to the need to chug Gatorade at fahr school Saturday because we were in full gear and the temp was in the 90s. It’s still spring in Nawth Carliner.
94 Murkin Degrees in Orlando yestidy with more of the same today. This is August weather…not May!!!
And speaking of rain (somebody did ;)) did anybody watch the derby on Satidy? What a mud fest! I didn’t have a horse in the race (pun intended) but I was glad to see Calvin win…again. And the guy from Houston who won $900K was a hoot! I couldn’t help thinking that was the best day of his life.
Spent the weekend gettin’ chores done. Envy me my ‘citin’ life.
Muggy, rainy, grey, humid, awful. And that’s the forecast for the next few days. Why can’t we have the kind of weather we had last Saturday? I could live with sunny, mild, breezy days all year long.
Yeah, it got a bit hot 'n muggy here in Michigan, too. It was something like 75 degrees out! If this global warming thing catches on, the snowbanks in the UP might melt clean away before July!
It was a good weekend here, tho - nothing to complain about. I saw my son sing in a concert at school, and I got out and put some miles on my 10-speed again. I gots to do lots and lots of them this summer, because I signed up to ride the DALMAC. What’s the DALMAC, you say? (If you didn’t say, that’s fine - you probably would have soon) That’s the Dick Allen Lansing to Mackinac Bike Tour - in my case, 340 miles in 5 days.
Why? Because I’m stupid. But I’ve always wondered if I could do it, so I decided that it was better to be 54 and peddling my ass off in September than being 84 and still wondering. So cheer me on, MMPers! Mackinac, here I come!!!
I’ll have to check the fine print in the application. I thought it said “perspiration”. But I’ve got a kid in college, so some extra cash could be handy, too.
Summer is here & hot & muggy is not just outside. This is a TV commercial that just aired last night on network TV (even so, I’m breaking it to make it work-safe) for REEBOK sneakers:
I turned around and saw my 7yo boy looking at this commercial with the Single Biggest Grin I have ever seen on his face.
Just then, the annoucer announced “…Better legs and Better butt with every step…!”
To which he grinned even bigger and giggled, “Daddy, that’s not Even Possible!!!”
Summer’s here ( & I’ve gotta have a talk with that boy…)
“Son, you just can’t Say things like that. You need to write them down & hand them to me first…”
Good Mornin’ Y’all! I’ve been a busy bear so far. I took OYKW’s vehicle in to get a headlight replaced. What? Yeah, possibly I could have done it but hey, he handed me a credit card and said take it to the Chevrolet place so who am I to argue? Plus I’ve been to the sto’ and boiled a chicken which I shall turn into a chicken pot pie probably tomorrow. As an added bonus, I have chicken stock!
BBBobbio thanks for the nomination and Rosie thanks for the second. Now I suppose I need a campaign speech for when the time comes. All suggestions welcome. Heck, it’d be a fun speech if I could just throw together a bunch of stuff y’all write down and post it. A sure fire winner cause, how could a speech put together by Mumpers not be good, right?
Time to throw in the AC’s. I have a fever and the flu but my place is 75 inside and it is sticky. You’d think if your internal temperature is 100 degrees 75 would feel cool?
I need to get the AC in my car serviced too. It will probably cost a bundle but it’s better then listening to Miss Daisy complain. Could you put up the window? Could you cool it off in here, I’m hot, I’m cold, The wind is messing up my hair…
Icky-sticky here too. Think I took three showers yesterday. At least the pollen is on vacation.
Big project for the weekend was to re-do the laundry room. Our behemoth front-loaders are now stacked and standing in the corner. Part of the cheap wire shelving that came with the house has been cut back to allow the dryer to move up in life, and the walls have been re-painted. It’s almost an OR green now, but it is fresh and bright.
It’s like someone set off a bland paint bomb in the house when they built it - every wall surface, and I mean EVERY wall was painted the same soul-sucking dirty beige non-color. And they painted very badly. Color aside, if I owned the place, I’d be having a full-on hissy fit over the drips and runs they left.
But now, the laundry and pantry are a fresh light green, and stacking the laundry makes the room feel so much larger. Side benefit is that we can now glance into the room from 15 feet away and see the machines’ displays to see how much time is remaining. Before, we’d have to go all the way into the room.
One of our finny friends took the Big Flush on Friday. He had a good life - in our care, his life expectancy went from a couple of days as a “feeder” fish to about four years. He even survived the cross-country trek in a plastic bucket, but all good things must come to an end.
"Sposed to be pretty nice here most of the week, at least temp wise. It’s gorgeous and sunny now, storms later but around 72 or so. Tomorrow is warmer, sunnier and I have a Sox game planned, so the relief is perfectly timed.
Busy morning today -opening bids, then a lunch with my work girlfriend at the place where my pretend girlfriend works. Cheez, hope she’s not working, this would be awkward. At least the work girlfriend knows she’s a pretend girlfriend and doesn’t take me seriously, and she knows about the dilemma with the bartender/waitress I believe I mentioned last week.
Easy afternoon, then a monstrous workout, then home to wait for Wife to return home with pretty nails.
And perhaps beer while the Hawks hopefully show up for tonight’s game.
My AC has been broken since last weekend, but I was really busy with school last week and forgot to tell my landlord. So of course yesterday was fucking horrendous. I hardly got any work done because I was so uncomfortable, which is great because I’ve got a paper due in a couple days.
This is going to be my first full North Carolina summer (I moved here from PA last August); I hate hot weather, so I’m really not looking forward to it.
