Sunday Morning Puzzle # 25

Rating: Challenger!!
This week’s puzzle consists of a list of movie titles with something in common. These titles, however, have undergone “Key Word Encoding”. Here’s how Key Word Encoding works:

A key word with no repeating letters is selected. Any time a letter from the key word appears in the text to be encoded, that letter is replaced with the next letter from the key word. The final letter of the key word is replaced with the first letter.

Example:

Key word: THREAD
Key code: T=H, H=R, R=E, E=A, A=D, and D=T
Title to be encoded: THE STRAIGHT DOPE MESSAGE BOARD
Encoded title: HRA SHEDIGRH TOPA MASSDGA BODET
Second title to be encoded: GENERAL QUESTIONS
Second encoded title: GANAEDL QUASHIONS

Note that only the letters that appear in the key word change. All other letters remain the same.

The 7-letter key word in this week’s puzzle describes the common factor in the 16 movie titles. Another meaning of the key word relates to a certain aspect of moviemaking. All movie titles below are encoded using this same key word.

To complicate matters, the encoded movie titles have been broken into pieces of two, three, and/or four letters and then alphabetized according to piece length. Can you determine the original movie titles and the key word?

……

Fuck that, I’m off for a beer.

I think your puzzle is peachy! But number 12 seems spoiled. Lettuce replace the HGP with HPG, and then it should be easy picking.

Hey! My name is in one of those encoded titles!

That’s like solving the puzzle, right?

Congratulations and sorry for the typo Peregrine! I am glad you enjoyed the puzzle. I double my rechecking time in the future to see that it doesn’t happen again. Thanks for your words of encouragement. If you’re ever interested in writing a puzzle, I’d quite enjoy trying to solve it!

Don’t feel too bad, Bio - the mistake wasn’t very gross, cherie!

Peregrine - any ideas on Puzzle 24? I’ve been looking at it for two weeks now without a glimmer.

Well, no good ideas, no. I’ll post an account of my non-progress over in the other thread.
