Sunday Morning Puzzle # 90 --- Jigsaw Cryptogram

When I was young, I loved jigsaw puzzles. The bigger and tougher… the better! I’ve also always been fond of cryptograms—hence this “Jigsaw Cryptogram”.

In addition to the text passage, source and authors are also given.

Can you figure out how to solve my Jigsaw Cryptogram?

Blast you! You could have at least put “that” in there somewhere!

Anybody out there working on this?

Biotop you’re laying in your cozy bed snickering quietly to yourself, aren’t you?

Actually, I’m at work snickering quietly to myself.

::slap::

I’m slowly putting my “pieces” together into the image of a bloody dagger.

Actually, I think I’m on to you. It’ll have the solution sometime in… er…

::checks calendar::

um, well, sometime

I gave it 5 minutes before accepting that hell was going to freeze over before I figured it out.

GAHHHHHH!

Look at the time… just look!

Hours I’ve been messing with this, HOURS!!!

I just have to stop now. Must. Stop. Now.

Come now indecisive1…it’s just a little 80+ piece jigsaw puzzle. (snicker…)

How do you even begin to tackle it? I thought maybe it was some sort of letter substitution gig, but then noticed a “word” that ends in three I’s. Which is when I guessed I was missing a skill to join the game.

Tired. So very, very tired.

Could you just give me one little hint? just one? please?

Like what is my upper left hand corner piece? Is that too much to ask?

It’s not like I ask you for stuff every day you know.

You have to put the pieces together first. The double characters starting so many words made me realize that. They match up. If you look for a while you’ll see it.

InvidiousCourgette and indecisive1:

The trick is, of course, figuring out how to solve the puzzle. I recommend starting out in jigsaw puzzle mode. Though there are no corner pieces, and only a couple of edge pieces, I think doing what you might do with a typical jigsaw would help get things started. indecisive1 is definately onto something!

On the other hand, the cryptogram approach could work too. After all, we’re only talking about simple letter substitution (snicker). Once either key is cracked, I have a feeling the solver can quickly shed light onto the problem and be guided safely home.

I guess I should have expected a cryptic reply.

I am sorting the thing like a puzzle. I’m inserting tab A… oh wait, i don’t want to tip InvidiousCourgette off.

I am trying now, but don’t worry too much about the “competition”.

Oh good! I’ll check in with you in about 4 hours.

Me too. I’m really tuckered.

Ha!

Uh oh…Can it be that indecisive1 has seen the light?? Now who is snickering!?!

And Puzzlemeister Peregrine, can it be that you have also escaped the rough waters?
