Sunny California (most of the time)

Well, we have a series of storms that should last for a few more days. Sunday, I heard Monday’s storm being described as a “storm of epic proportions.” The thing was gone by 1:00pm. I think we got a whole inch of rain. On my way to work today, the morning radio talk show used the words “biblical proportions” to describe today’s storm. It rained for a good two hours.

I’m guessing tomorrow’s storm will be “catastrophic,” while Thursday’s storm will be “apocalyptic.”

Come on Californians, we need to toughen up a bit!

Replace “storm” with “budget shortfalls” and “days” with “years”, and then I think we got something worth being alarmed about.

Yep. Apparently we got more than half an inch of rain today. Woohoo! There was even, for about half an hour, a tornado warning for parts of San Diego county.

Now, having lived in Texas for many years, my idea of a tornado warning was “it’s coming right at us!”, but apparently in SoCal, it means that it’s windy and it’s rainy at the same time.

There’s more rain to come, which is a good thing.

I wouldn’t have been very impressed with it, but this afternoon, I got a call from my daughter to pick her up from school. So I got dressed, and stepped out onto the patio. Driveway is flooded.

I’ll just go out the front door and see if there’s any higher ground coming from the end. Hmm. flooded there, too.

Okay, I roll up my pants legs, take off my shoes, and grab a towel from the linen closet. I’ll just dry my feet and put my shoe on in the car.

That water is kind of high up against the garage door. I am not going to enjoy seeing all that water in the garage, but, what the hell, everything is on shelves, and the important stuff is on the higher shelves. What’s that, honey? The next door neighbor had to ask someone to drive his wife to work? Huh. I wonder why. He’s got a van, same as I do. I could see this water disabling a sedan, but a van should be okay…

Damn garage door will not open. Seriously, I can’t get the van out of the garage until the water drains out of the driveway. Kayla had practice for her district honor choir this evening, and I had to take her there in a cab.

Oh, and phouka? Yes I’ll grant that we can use the rain, but I think the whole “tornado warning” thing is a bit more than just wind and rain.

Don’t you need the whole “twister” effect for it to be a tornado?

Is this good enough?

Winter storms in California are not to be taken lightly, and this one is particularly heavy. A lot of people make fun of Californians in the rain, often for good reason. I’m from Oregon, I know rain. The Albert Hammond song ain’t lying: it pours, man, it pours.

Gracie) You know George, I love New York but it’s great to be back in sunny California

George) Now there, I’ll agree with, it never rains in California, it says here
