Sunny indie pop recommendations!

I was listening to the Cardigans’ Carnival album the other day and started thinking about how much I love breezy, European indie pop like much of their earlier output and music by The Wannadies and the like. Latterly there’s been a few bands like that such as I’m From Barcelona with a similar breezy pop sensibility. I think perhaps the term “twee” is used for the genre but I hate that term for some reason. Anyway, does anyone have an recommendations for similar music?

Perhaps The Fiery Furnaces are what you are looking for.

There’s a database of twee pop bands called http://www.twee.net
Most are ones I’ve never heard of but of bands featured there I do know, I recommend:

The Candyskins
Club 8
Dubstar
I Am Kloot
The Innocence Mission <— a lot like the Cardigans
Ivy
The Magnetic Fields
Some are definitely not going to be what you’re thinking of, though, based on their selections. Blindside is on the list! They’re usually considered Christian Metal. They’re got Courtney Love, the Smiths (!!) and Primal Scream on there too

Surprisingly, they’ve left both Architecture In Helsinki and Tilly and The Wall off their list. Hmm.

If you’ve overlooked them before, there are a bunch of other bands not classed as twee that might have the “fun” and light aspect you’re looking for: Caviar, Catatonia, Ladytron, Laika, Ocean Colour Scene, Paper Models, Self, Tiger Baby.

Los Campesinos!

Well, I have some, but they’re fairly regionalized to Norway or Scandinavia.

If you try out Kings of Convenience, Røyksopp or Kent for a fit, I can recommend you more if you like?

Kings of Convenience - I don’t know what I can save you from . . . (Youtube)

Røyksopp - Poor Leno (Youtube)

Kent - Dom Andra (Youtube)
Also, I always throw in some Kaizers Orchestra wherever it fits. This is more rock-ish, though, but give Kontrol På Kontinentet a try

ETA: This is all Scandinavian pop, btw. KoC and Røyksopp are Norwegian, as well as Kaizers, while Kent is Swedish.
