I was thinking after the game of Charlie Brown, too- an old Peanuts strip where Linus tells Charlie Brown about a football game he saw on TV and how happy the team was when they won and how exciting everything is. Charlie’s response: how did the other team feel?
Not only was that Coke ad the best of the night, but it was prophetic: a true underdog (not Underdog) overcoming bigger and more powerful forces. You’re a good team, New York Giants.
Happiest man on the field. He’s been getting shit all week for his final score guess.
Re: Choking
The giants D played great and the really deserved to be MVP, especially after they stopped the drive, then they had a stupid 12 man penalty then they stopped them on forth down to get the ball back. It wasn’t a choke, the Giants D played out of it’s mind.
The Pats’ opponents have been in games the last few weeks so the fact that a team could beat them doesn’t mean that THEY choked.
I’m not saying you’re wrong, but that last deep deep bomb to Moss was right on the money. It was a perfect throw that was well covered. Everyone in the group that I was watching the game with had their jaws on the floor.
Oh, there was ref favortism! New England’s been shoved down our throats as the flawless perfect machine, and now the myth is broken. Don’t be a Hateriot, it was a damn good game! Those guys were Giants, and they just tore at Brady the whole game (who I still dislike for the Bridget Bridget Moynahan thing, sorry I just have a crush on her). At least whoever one they had the right confetti.
Unreal. The most amazing thing to me is that it wasn’t a fluky win. I figured that for the Giants to have a shot, they’d have to block a punt, recover four fumbles, or return a couple of kicks for TDs. But they just outplayed the other team. It was amazing.
Oh, and what’s up Dio’s ass? I mean, he’s been generally grumpy for a couple of years now, but this is beyond the pale.
My son (11 years old) has watched every game this season. He was never much of a football fan before this year, but he really started getting more and more interested in the game as the season went on.
He just broke down and cried at the end of the game. I had to give him a hug and a talk about how all good things come to and end, you’ve got to take the bad with the good, etc. Poor kid.
Nah, the real lesson of this is the only “sport” to watch is pro-wrestling. That way if the guy you like loses you can tell yourself that’s because it’s fixed and you’d be right.
Yay! The Giants are champs. They did it for my dad (a huge Giant fan who passed away in September).
One thing that hasn’t yet been discussed was that Belichick, for once, got outcoached. It took him until the late 3rd/ early 4th quarter to have his receivers run shorter routes, even though it was pretty obvious the offensive line couldn’t protect Brady on the longer routes.
And Belichick had one of the all-time coaching gaffes in the 2nd quarter, when the Pats went for it on 4th and 13 at the Giants 31. With a kicker who has the leg strength to kick it that far. And in an indoor stadium! Not that the kick (about 48 yds) is a gimme, but it’s better than 4th and 13! And, as it turned out, they needed those 3 points…
If they had missed the kick, the Giants would have gotten the ball at the spot of the kick (which would have been the 38), so the Giants would have gotten better field position from a missed kick thn a failed conversion attemp. Going for it was actually a lower risk, higher reward play.
It’s weird, I wasn’t that surprised Belichick went for the 4th and 13. I thought the 48 yard field goal was high risk and a punt was only likely to net an extra 25 yards. The Pats are suppose to have the best offense ever, why not go for it.
Especially considering the play call, which ended up being a 40+ yard pass attempt.
Hey Dio, just so you know, when the refs swallow the whistles and let the players play, that’s what’s known as GOOD officiating. Not sure what sport you watch, but when the refs roll out a bunch of pussy calls, it makes NFL games suck.
Looks like Eli has one thing Tom Brady lacks: a true signature play, on par with Montana’s “the catch” and Elway’s helicopter.
How about that class of 2004, eh? It’s not looking too shabby against the class of 83. Big Ben, Eli and Rivers have now combined for the same number of rings as Elway, Marino and Kelly. The youngsters don’t have anywhere near the kind of statistical proficiency as those guys yet, but toss in a couple more rings and I think they’d hold their own in the conversation. (And I’m almost positive Rivers will get at least one.)
I wasn’t surprised either, as it’s right in that sweet spot where it makes some sense to go for it, and it’s totally Belichick’s style. I’m just not buying that it was the absolute smartest tactical move in that situation.
Actually, no it wasn’t. He left it short and Moss had to slow down, allowing the defensive backs to catch up and knock the ball away. If he’d thrown it sooner, or longer, it would have been a Moss catch going away.
Brady looked anything but sharp. Some of that was the Giants’ D, but some was his inability to throw the ball like he wanted.
I agree- going for it on 4th and 13 on the 31 isn’t nuts, it’s just a little ballsy and risky for the second quarter. Early in the game, I think a field goal makes more sense. Late in the game and trailing, though, Belichick’s decsion would look a lot better. But a 48 yard field goal is quite makable, especially in a dome.
