Super Bowl 39, baby!!!!!!!

I’m sitting here suffering through daytime TV waiting for the NFL to make the announcement as to who gets the Super Bowl for 2005. Please, oh please let it be Jacksonville. Here we go… YES! YES! YES! WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO
Happy Dance of Joy!
My little hometown, hosting the big game.

Congratulations!

hmmmm - wonder if I can fix up a cozy corner of the garage to rent out for SB39?? I read in the paper that there aren’t enough hotel rooms in town… oh, the possibilities…

My grandfather left me an empty lot across from our family business on Duval Street. At the time he died I thought, WTF? Well, DUH!! Empty lot on Duval Street which is 2 blocks from Alltell Stadium. The last 4 years of parking revenue are going to send my kid to college. The SUPER BOWL??? Retirement, here I come!

Did Detroit get Super Bowl Extra-Large, then? (That would be 40, or the Roman numeral XL, in case you didn’t get it.)

If you haven’t seen the conceptual images of the domed stadium Detroit has in the works, seek them out on the 'Net. It is going to be the coolest stadium in the NFL, complete with a clear wall to see the city skyline and one side of the dome built into an old building, with the individual rooms now open-faced luxury boxes. It looks amazing and very unique.

Taptapttaaapptaptaptap… happy feet!
Yes, Detroit is set for XL.

I’m not sure what number the next Superbowl (2001) is or where it will be played, but it will be played on my birthday.

OK all you Dopers in winning cities are on the hook for rooms when our various teams make the big game…

And when the Jags get out of the rut theyre in maybe they could be playing for the Superbowl in Jville!! Wouldnt that be phat?

{highjack} Hi everyone! God I missed you guys!! ::hugs::

I assume you mean the one at the end of this season. It will be played in Tampa Bay. Houston gets it in 2004. (I’m not sure about 2002 and 2003.)

YAY! Detroit gets Superbowl 40! I’ll still need 3 months till I can legally drink… damn.

So, that’s why Philadelphia’s not scheduled to host a game! :stuck_out_tongue:

(Yes, I know they don’t give northern cities without domes Super Bowls. Also, the Vet is a shithole.)

Detroit is getting a SuperBowl, but they are really stupid about the way they are doing it. Their current stadium, Pontiac Silverdome, can hold approximately 95,000 fans and has more parking than they know what to do with. But the stadium is old and the city of Detroit has been courting the team for years to come back to the city proper. A new stadium is a great incentive. I’m sure that the new stadium will look awesome, except for the fact that they are building it pretty much in the worst part of town, not to mention that parking is absolutely atrocious downtown. I think the team is going to lose their asses on this one because it is costing the city hundreds of millions of dollars to build a new stadium for a team that nobody in town gives a shit about.

Sorry about the hijack to the Jacksonville revelers … I read something cool about their getting 39. It seems there aren’t enough hotel rooms in the metro Jax area for a Super Bowl. So several large cruise ships are going to come and moor on some river that runs through the city, and serve as floating hotels.

Now, if only the Cowboys make the Super Bowl that year, we can take out a sizeable portion of Cowboy-lovers with one well-fired torpedo!

crusty old man voice

Hmm. Is this some form of sporting game? Ah, you kids and your newfangled pastimes!

(sigh)

Saint Johns (river, Florida), river, eastern Florida, rising in the swamps of east central Florida, and flowing north to Jacksonville, forming several lakes along its course. Turning east, it empties into the Atlantic Ocean. It is 459 km (285 mi) long and is part of the Intracoastal Waterway from Palatka, 137 km (85 mi) upstream, to the Atlantic.

Oh sure, Lnix. Give me grief. What river runs through my hometown, pal?

Um, I think it has an Indian name that’s loosely translated as “Not Hosting the Super Bowl”
Oh, come on, I’m from Jacksonville let me be a little smug fer 5 seconds, ok?
