How do they choose which city the Super Bowl is played in?
I believe cities that wish to host petition the NFL several years beforehand. In addition to a stadium suitable in size and snazziness, other conditions are factored in such as weather, restaurants, hotel accommodations, ease of travel, etc.
Houston’s new Reliant Stadium, a state of the art, retractable roof stadium is the venue for next year’s bowl game.
One other big factor: when an NFL team is trying to get its local government to built them a new stadium with tax dollars, it’s common for the NFL to promise that city a Super Bowl down the road.
San Diego just remolded our stadium 5 years ago. This week the NFL said we won’t get anymore super bowls until we build a new stadium. I hope we don’t bow to the pressure and get stuck with our third stadium boondoggle in less than 10 years.
