Super Bowl 43. Arizona Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Holy fuck!!!

Umm, why wasn’t that reviewed?

Again (pursuant to earlier debates), I can’t find a current edition of the NFL rulebook, but it sure looked like Warner pushed that ball forward with his hand, kinda shotput-style, while it was apparently twirling around on his palm. Perhaps control is the critical element there, even if he touched it after it was going forward.

Osip, Dalej, your guys gave us a heck of a game! Thanks for making it a fun game and a fun thread! As for me, I’m going to kick back and enjoy this six-pack!

Go Steelers!

If Big Ben gets MVP I’ll Vomit.

I think most of the calls were valid in this game, but that last call was terrible.

I did not think that was a fumble either. The ball was in his hand moving forward when it came out. I doubted that they could have pulled it out. Yet, they sure took very little time to review that play.

sigh well they played better than expected beat the spread and if they can keep their pending free agents and improve their team in the draft they can better their 9-7 record in 2009.

I wonder if Kurt is going to get his kids a puppy anyhow.

Control is a critical element, i had my hands in front of my eyes so I don’t know on that play one way or the other.

'Cause the review booth took a quick look and saw nothing to review?

That’s what my eyes said too. He lost it while his arm was back, and it bounced/was pushed forward. Not a pass.

Holy shit - that was awesome!

He pushed the ball forward. It’s clear as a bell. There’s no excuse for not reversing that.

Warner didn’t have control when his hand was moving forward. It was knocked out of his hand. The call was correct. But, beyond that, in almost every football thread you’re in, you bitch and whine about officiating. Get a new schtick.

I’m not much of a football fan (if teh Packers aren’t playing) but that was a good game. A safety? Anybody know how many happened in previous Superbowls?
And on the subject, were there more safetys this year than typical?

Brian

His hand was hit before the ball started coming forward, sure he sorta continued moving his hand forward but the initial contact was beforehand.

…and I HATE the steelers.

Thanks. I have to admit, if it were not for Whiz and Grimm leaving Steeler land Arizona would not have been near the Super Bowl.

Had you of told me AZ would be in the Super Bowl this year I would have laughed and said they were a year or two away.

I am glad they proved me wrong.

I agree with this sooo much. If the score were reversed I’d have to swallow the defeat; the Cardinals played a hell of a game and could certaianly have won. It was the strongest performance against the Steelers’ D this year, very well-played. Congratulations to you guys, it was a very well-played game, penalties or not.

Bah

As an aside, let me say that Joe Namath does not belong in the Hall of Fame and he is likely the most overrated NFL player of all time.

But he had some fashion sense.

The initial contact doesn’t matter. Just because the QB gets his arm hit before he releases doesn’t mean it was a fumble. He still had control of it. The ball moved forward because of his own arm motion.

I’m not going to spend all day arguing about it, though. I don’t really care that much. It serves Arizona right for voting for McCain.

One thing that irksme is that this makes three former Vikings coordinators who have gone on to win rings as HC’s for other teams. It would be nice to hold onto one of these guys once in a while.

What did Barack Obama do for Dan Rooney?
