I was amused by Radio Shack’s ‘The 80’s called, they want their store back’.
Yeah even though I’m a super Muppets nerd, I think Radio Shack wins it for me.
I liked the Jaguar ad with the British villains.
I keep begging Tom Hiddleston to stop making me love him, but so far he hasn’t obliged.
The Oikos ad with John Stamos trolling for a blowjob was disgusting.
I loved the Doritos time machine ad.
At our impromptu party we went out of our way to get a feed with US commercials. Frankly I felt you guys let me down. Admittedly the Jaguar commercial was nifty, Colbert is always worth my time, and the Radioshack ad could be good if the company can follow through on it.
A lot of the time though we looked like :dubious:. I especially really wanted to kick that blue smartie of an auto insurance mascot right in the face. Overall I feel I should hit my brother up for some insulin to counteract the saccharine overdose.
There were some nice teasers in the mix - particularly Cosmos. Looks like 24’s coming back, too.
Oy. Xenophobes never cease to amaze me.
Radio Shack for me. Wrestling fan nitpick, though: Hulk Hogan was very obviously wearing his 1994 WCW gear.
http://www.aintitcool.com/ has links to many of the movie spots, and a link to the full Seinfeld spot.

I didn’t read the Salon article, but the complaints I’ve heard about the commercial were about the use of other languages and I’ve always kind of felt it was rude to move here and not learn English.
After all, it’s considered rude and “ugly American”-like to go to other countries and expect them to speak English, so why is it not rude to come here and not learn the language?
I thought the radio shack ad was pretty cool, til I thought about it. In the '80s, you could buy fairly high quality sound equipment, some of the first affordable home computers, resistors and capacitors by the drawerful for homemade electronic projects…
Now it’s embraced it’s role as a store where you pay too much for a cellphone.
The Dylan ad worked for me. The ad was a celebration of the rebirth of the American car industry and Dylan’s voice lends it an air of authenticity and gravitas that a lesser star could not.
Radio Shack’s ad was great. They have an old image they need to shed and the ad was spot on.
I knew the Teanuts would be up in arms about the Coke ad. “If English was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for me!”
Uh, just because you are singing a song in your native language doesn’t mean you don’t use English at the dry cleaner’s.
The Seinfeld ad struck me mostly because while Jerry has obviously aged, the other two actors look as if they stepped right out from when the series ended.
People do learn English - I don’t have the cite at hand, but it’s been pretty consistent over the decades: immigrants tend to speak their native tongue, their children speak both, their grandchildren speak only English. There has been no change with the undocumented Mexican/South American immigrants.
I thought the commercial was a great way to show the American melting pot.
I don’t think the Radio Shack '80s commercial aired in my area. Thanks YouTube…that was pretty cool.
The Doritos cowboy commercial annoyed me, because the kids never did help Mom unload the car, and just snagged the Doritos anyway. Rotten bastards.
Another Transformers movie? Seriously?
And Jason Alexander even took off his hairpiece to do it.
It works better when you realize that all greek yogurt is just John Stamos’ jizz.
My favorite was the Radio Shack ad, but really, I do miss the '80s Radio Shack. When I go to Radio Shack, it’s because I want components: Resistors, diodes, transistors, and so on. The last time I went to Radio Shack, they had one small cabinet tucked into a back corner for those, and the clerk knew nothing about any of them beyond how to scan the barcode. Yeah, you can still find them online, but there’s something to be said for a store where the workers can critique your circuit diagram and give you advice and tell you which parts can be substituted for which, and so on.
The Ford Fusion double ad just struck me as stupid: What’s so unprecedented about the ad? And to make it worse, even though their main selling point was the fuel efficiency, they never actually said what their fuel efficiency was.
Oh, and the Doritos ads were both good, but the time machine was definitely the better of the two.
OK, I laughed…And now I hate myself for it.
Did anybody else see the Scientology commercial (which apparently only aired regionally)?
Maybe we got that here in the Bay Area instead of RadioShack.
