Super Bowl Halftime show

fat chance of that with the sparkly football pads they had on Fergie. It was like they were armoring her on purpose, given the skimpy costumes she usually wears.

However it would have been funny if will.i.am’s plastic Borg hair hat thingy fell off.

Just like the game, I watched a little bit but then went back to having fun.

You guys are making me feel better. I was afraid I didn’t like it because I’m too old (and prefer a much larger actual-singing-to-shouting ratio in my music), not because it actually sucked.

On the plus side for the future, at least they have now set the bar low enough that any act they put on next year will be better by default.

Hell, this could be just the chance “Up With people” is waiting for.

They played that “Tonite’s Gonna Be A Good Night” song for an NFL crowd before. Was it the first game of this season or last year’s SB pregame? I though at the time it sucked and for some inexplicable reason it’s gotton more popular and now they play it again.

BEP: Not good, boring, need to go away.

At least it wasn’t the cast of Glee doing the half time show. I watched it, didn’t like it, but I know they can’t keep doing the aging rock legend thing year after year. Since it was in Dallas, I thought they might have gone for a pop country show.

At least it was more fun to watch than last year’s. Does the sound always suck that bad?

C’mon. It wasn’t worse than The Who’s miserable piece of shit performance last year.

Why not just throw millions of dollars in a burn barell, have a few lucky fans who have won a random drawing get introduced to throw a match into the barell?

Tonight’s halftime show sponsored by Kingsford Charcoal.

While it’s burning, have the closest Corp from DCI perform.

I’m old, and have only a passing familiarity with BEP’s music, but some of it is catchy and I don’t mind when it comes on the radio. But they sounded horrible yesterday, which I attribute to very bad sound mixing and the fact that most of their songs are dance numbers that rely on studio mixing and effects. It was an embarassing performance, but at least the NFL went with someone who has been relevent in the last twenty years.

Oh, I had forgotten all about that. It was bad and sad.

This one was just bad.d It looked like some bad dream from the '80s, and sounded like some local garage band with faulty equipment.

My 14-year-old loves BEP, and he thought it sucked, too.

And poor Usher! Practically risks his life being lowered from the ceiling, all just to half a song in a medley.

I watched the game and made a concerted effort to not watch the halftime show. Had I been at a bar I would have simply ignored it but since I was at home I could actually change the channel / go out for a smoke / do something else. I don’t have any feelings about Ms Aguilera either way but I will avoid the Black Eyed Peas if at all possible.

I like the BEP’s in a, “good song to have on the IPOD whilst working out,” kind of way. So I was really interested in seeing how they did. I was impressed that they did not lip-synch. Good for them. But there was something really off with the sound system. Overall it sounded like crap. But I think a big part of that is that their music does not lend itself to live performance. It’s all that background noise they create in the studio that makes their songs fun to jog/elliptical/step/jazzercise to. I was impressed with Wil-I-Am’s ability to make lemonade out of shit (I thought his singing was pretty decent).

I watched the game, and some of the halftime show. The game was great, the halftime show (though I do like the BEPs) SUCKED. I don’t remember when they started trying to insert a little concert inside a football game, but I wish they would stop. It’s a day of football. I wish they wold have no show. Or maybe let a college football band do their thing. It’s annoying. It’s embarrassing. And it’s got nothing to do with football.

Merged a younger thread with a poll into the existing half-time show thread. If the continuity is a little wonky in the discussion, that’s what happened.

I picked option No. 2 – “Yes, but didn’t watch the rest of the game” – it’s not quite true, but it is true in spirit. I paid much more attention to the halftime show than I did to the game, and I bailed on the game with 7:00 on the clock.

I agree that the acoustics were bad, but I was really impressed by the performance of the Black Eyed Peas.

Word.

I said to my wife, “I never respected Axl Rose…until now.”

Immediately changed channel when 2nd half ended. Caught a few seconds here and there checking back on it to see if game was back on. BEP’s are terrible; they’re like the New Kids of hip-hop.

However it was the source of a humorous Facebook comment by one of my friends:

It made me feel old, in a “that’s the shit that’s passing for music these days?” kind of way.
