Super Bowl Halftime show

The show was absolutely ghastly. I almost fell off the sofa I was laughing so hard. People dancing round with boxes on their heads and then suddenly Slash ascends from the corner of the set (or was it the other way round) where he and Fergie do an impromptu and horrible mini duet before he disappears. Oh god that was bad.

So… you’re saying it wasn’t quite up to the standards of the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony.
Got that right.

this x 2

Glad I had planned on spending most of halftime in the kitchen, but every time I walked by where I could see the TV it was just in time to hear the wife going “This Sucks!”

I said it last year, and I’ll say it again this year. They need to get a newer rock acts. Not aging rock stars that can no longer sing their own songs (The Who, partially Bruce and Tom,) and not pop shit that is more polarizing (Timberlake and Janet, BEP (especially when they had a shitty performance.)

Here is a very short list of rock acts that have good enough songs, and can actually put on a good live show:
30 Second to Mars
Muse
Kings of Leon
Rise Against

Egads, it was like watching a long, unpleasantly mixed train wreck with dancing sugar cubes.
I never thought I would look up to Axl Rose’s vocal abilities, but there you have it.

I hate the fact that the halftime show makes the game’s pace different than usual.
It seems that the teams are invariably off-tempo at the beginning of the third quarter because of the extended down time.

If we HAVE to have some gigantic spectacle, then why not before or after the game?

I too was hoping for a wardrobe malfunction, but given where I was watching the game, that could have been quite bad. It was an odd experience.

Background info, every year for the past 15, I watch the Superbowl with my Father and Grandfather. Got pizza and wings, and enjoyed the game. Usually at my Grandfather’s place. Back in September, my Grandfather fell and broke his hip.

Fast forward to game night, he’s in a wheelchair at a rehab hospital for quite elderly people. Pizza, check. TV - big screen in the dining room on his floor, check. Waiving of “visiting hours”, check.

Settle in to watch the game, and it’s just the three of us in the room. End of first quarter, pills get delivered (with apple juice and cookies!). Still three in the room, and the pills only went to one person.

Half time? (Keep in mind all the rooms in the hospital have those tiny tiny TVs on swing arms with shitty sound.) Three more people come into the room, one elderly couple, and another dude. They made a few comments during the show about the “young lady”, the “black man with grey hair”, and loved the “pulsating red hearts”. Then they left.

I guess I got my own halftime show

Ditto, that was beyond horrible. The singing of the BEP band members was American Idol reject BAD. The sound system (which was TERRIBLE in its own right), might have been responsible for some of the dullness of the show itself, but that’s not why their voices were too loud, strained, off key, and for Fergie, oddly masculine.

Even Usher whom I like, was like molasses in January with his moves and music. The light show was a bit neat, for about 5 seconds, but would have been much better with some actual dancing going on, instead of a repertoire of about 5 Drill Team moves.

Then of course, half the lights in the costumes stop working. And what was up with the Xena the Princess Warrior garb? Sheesh, bring back the old dudes.

That half time show was just about the most atrocious piece of crap I’ve ever seen.
