Super Bowl XLV

I think many Packer Fans might think an earlier QB was their best player ever. You might say their biggest Starr.

Congratulations to the Packers and their fans. The Packers earned every bit of it, from the turnovers to the victory. It was as good a game to watch as any I’ve seen in a while. Of course I wish that the result had been different, but at least the Steelers went out fighting and it wasn’t a fluky win. Right now that’s about all I have to say, I’m sure I’ll have more later but I’m not in a particularly good mood right now. Them’s the breaks.

I’ve only had like a couple iof beers and maybe half a bottle of schnappps. I’m pertcecly fine to dribve.

QFT. Starr was a great man on and off the field. Is a great man off the field to this day.

And if Favre chooses to return to the Packer fold, the fans will welcome him back.

God help anyone near you if you drive like you type.

Not me, not now, at least. But Joe Montana was the best player the 49ers ever had and they also made the right move letting him go.

There are going to be a lot of unimaginative sportswriters in the next few months running a trope about “Packer fans forgetting about Favre,” but no true fan will ever forget Favre. But the team’s decision to replace him was the right one. And when Favre played for the Jets, I cheered for him. When he signed with the Viqueens, I did not take it personally, and I relished in his failure only in his capacity as a member of that garbage franchise. Nothing the least bit personal. I’ll surely get a little misty-eyed when he comes back to Lambeau to have his number retired, and I’ll probably schlepp up to Canton for his induction.

Yeesh, you sound worse than us Steelers fans.

Congrats to the Packers, but just remember folks – we’ll be back. Enjoy your victory…for now.

We’ll enjoy it, and we’ll be back too.

13 NFL championships (including 3 consecutive ones), and counting. Da Bears are next, with 9

Thanks to the Steelers for a helluva game. They’re a worthwhile team to root for. They’ll just never be my team to root for.

Qadgop the Packerfan

Congratulations to Packer fans. I wish just once I could have what you have. I also wish that every NFL fan base could own its team. That’s the bomb. Just try not to be too smug, ok?

Also. Aarron Rodgers is pretty good. It’s like you’ve got a Montana/Young thing going on there. My worst nightmare. But I have to admit, he never fell down, no matter how much I wanted him to. We’ve got fucking Joe Webb now. We are fucked.

The pre-Superbowl championships don’t mean shit. There were like four teams back then. Don’t overdo it.

Let me get this right. You admit that you complained about the praise for Favre when you REALLY thought (even then) that he was deserving of the praise…and now you criticize PACKER fans for intellectual dishonesty?

You’re so cute.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Thanks, Dio

I know those words are not easy for you.
I’m thrilled the Lombardi Trophy is coming home

I’m also thrilled for Driver & Woodson, at least getting to contribute in what may be their last game

I’m a Vikings fan who lives about 3 miles from Heinz Field so I was really torn. Pull for Dem Stillers because at least they aren’t Cheeseheads? Pull for the Pack because Pittsburgh cost us a Superbowl? In the end it really didn’t matter with the NFL fans winning - a close cool game. Congrats to all the Pack and their fans - you are champions!!!

No doubt. I was so happy for Toomer and Strahan for much the same reason.

The Vikings need to find a QB now while Adrian Peterson is in his prime. I’m not sure who is going to be out there for them though.

For everything the fans and media have said about Roethlisberger, all his praise boils down to one consistent theme: he’s big. Not exceptionally talented or skilled, just bigger than everyone else out there and hard to tackle. Now that’s he turned in two mediocre performances and one horrendous, historically bad performance in Super Bowls, maybe we can just settle on him being an above average QB who made the most of his luck and great teammates. The antithesis of Dan Marino, in a way.

For all the fawning over how clutch he is, we ignore that it’s his average to poor QB play that constantly puts him in these situations, and that he has yet to turn in a great, or even good, performance in a Super Bowl from start to finish. In his entire postseason career, twelve games, he’s had a 100+ QB Rating three times. His career postseason numbers are alarmingly average. It’s remarkable to me that Pro Football Reference finds the player whose career most resembles Roethlisberger’s to be Jim Kelly - a polar opposite career in terms of fortune in my eyes.

I agree that the biggest factor in the game today was Roethlisberger’s two picks. I’m notvready to say he’s “mediocre,” though. he’s got three Superbowl appearances and two wins. It’s really hard just to get there. Mediocre quarterbacks don’t get multiple appearances, much less multiple rings.

That credits him with his first ring, though, which far overstates his contribution against the Seahawks.

Whooohooo! I’m only now able to breathe normally again. The entire second half was nerve-wracking.

It really was a great game to watch. And, I have a great deal of respect for the Steelers (even if I don’t care for Roethlisberger); if they’d been playing against anyone besides the Packers, I would have been cheering for Pittsburgh.

For the record, on the Favre issue…I still have a ton of respect for his playing ability, and he did do a ton of great things for the Packers (though I’m torn on him vs. Starr as the all-time best Packer QB). I just wish that the drama-queen stuff over the past few years hadn’t happened, because it’s definitely tarnished his legacy. It’s my hope that time will heal some wounds, on both sides.

And yet in a league where QBs are generally the only ones who can win MVPs and are a heavy favorite to win the Super Bowl MVP, Roethlisberger has neither. He’s never even turned in a good performance in a Super Bowl. He’s turned in relatively few good performances in the playoffs in general.
