Super Bowl XLVII Thread

I have been quoting this all evening. Do you mind if I put it on fb? Attributed to “one of my internet friends.”

Well, at least Harbaugh the Greater Douche didn’t win. Not like there is much to celebrate that Harbaugh the Lesser Douche did.

Go nuts.

Just as Steeler fans live up to their rep. Big Ben just settled his lawsuit on his first alleged rape (I’m wrong, it was a year ago). Ray was never convicted of murder but Ben paid off on the lawsuit for the first one he was accused of. He got totally off on the other two.

I just came in here to say, “Fuck Ray Lewis.” That is all.

Didn’t the safety swing the betting?

Pissed the fuck out of the squares players in my bar

Not the standard line, 49ers were favored.

Not really. Except for football pools. I’m here in Vegas right now. The line on the game was +4 for the 49ers. So the money line bet of course didn’t change. With the points the 9ers needed to win by 4. Didn’t change the over under either. It was well into the over.
I’m a Giants fan so I really didn’t care much about who won. (Ok full disclosure I bet the 9ers and lost but I also bet there would be a safety and a special teams touchdown so I broke even). Two non calls at the end were terrible. It was completely obvious that there was holding on the defense. And the play before it was helmet to helmet on a defenseless receiver. They called that every time it happened during the season but nothing here. On top of that during the scrum earlier Williams put both hands on an official and shoved. I have never seen that happen and there not be a penalty and ejection. You can’t let players do that. Badly officiated game.

Forgot the Niners were favored.

Not the line, but Bill Barnwell is probably sobbing in his drink over losing the “will there be a safety” bet for the second time in a row.

(Context.)

I don’t know where he got that line and when. I wish it was +900. When I placed the bet it was +400.

This is a terrible argument. It was a 3 point game, both teams played very similarly and you are implying that the Ravens mistakes are somehow less pertinent than the 49ers mistakes. The 49ers probably should have won this game going away, but they made some mistakes and got a lot of bad breaks. So you’re either saying that a far less talented team in the Ravens deserved to win or the mistakes they made which kept it close aren’t demerits.

Tell Santonio Holmes that.

Just for the record, Homicide >> Date Rape.

Both guys are scumbags, but you don’t have a leg to stand on here.

Wait, you bet that there WOULD be a safety, and got only 4-1 odds on your money? Ouch, that’s a godawful bet, regardless of the result.
FWIW, I didn’t see any kind of mandatory defensive penalty at the end of the game. Sometimes they call that DPI, but also sometimes they don’t, and in any event I thought the pass was uncatchable (literally don’t think he could have caught it and gotten two feet in bounds even if there was no defender there). And Akers wasn’t touched on his running-into-the-kicker penalty: he just flopped.

And double homicide is double badder.

Well they certainly wouldn’t give 4/1 that there wasn’t going to be a safety. And no it wasn’t a bad bet. We take prop bets to have a little more fun while watching the game. It’s not like I put big money on it. It’s all crap shoot anyway (which I won 2 years in a row). I also put money on their being a 2 point conversion. Pissed they didn’t score on that.

That safety play was interesting, in that the players can hold silk day long and all that happens is more time ticks off the clock even though a penalty is called.

True enough, and almost every prop bet is going to be a “bad bet,” strictly speaking. But those particular odds strike me as prohibitively bad. I’d rather have my fun with wagers where I bet $5 and expect to get $4 back on average, instead of ones where I bet $5 and only get $1 back.

Speaking of prop bets… what was the over/under on “number of helmets to come off during play”? 'Cause it went waaaaaay over. Damn! I’ve never seen that many helmets fly off in a football game! Must be a record.

There are all kinds of wacky props, but I don’t think helmet loss is one of them. It should be. Maybe next year.
